    UPMC Children's is seeking a full-time Pharmacist Specialist for the inpatient pharmacy at the main hospital in Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. New graduates are welcome!

     

    Pharmacist Specialists are responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and cost-effective pharmacotherapy. They support specialized medication-use systems and participate in all aspects of medication processes and pharmacy services, including informatics, research, sterile compounding, medication safety, and regulatory compliance. They also help prevent adverse drug events and regulatory issues, serve as resources for healthcare teams, and lead initiatives to improve medication-use processes. Pharmacists provide education and training and serve as preceptors for students and residents.

     

    This position works a night shift, 7 days on, 7 days off (7:30 pm - 7:00 am). UPMC offers a competitive benefits package and opportunities for career growth.

    Responsibilities:

    + Interpret and evaluate physician orders for inpatient and outpatient medications.

    + Report adverse drug reactions and sustain the formulary with therapeutic interchange protocols.

    + Review patient medication records for allergies, drug interactions, and duplications.

    + Supervise pharmacy staff, including technicians, aides, and students.

    + Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies.

    + Communicate with physicians and nurses to clarify orders.

    + Provide drug information and educational programs.

    + Use technology and computer systems in pharmaceutical care.

    + Prepare and dispense medications, including intravenous admixtures.

     

    Additional duties may apply based on the role.

     

    + Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy

    + B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree

    + Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state

    + Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency or minimum of 3 years of experience in specialized area of pharmacy operations/services required

    + Relevant training/certification in specialized area of pharmacy operations/services preferred* Pharmacist specialists support pharmacy operations in specialized roles.

    + Current pharmacist specialist positions include but are not limited to informatics, IT, inventory, research, medication safety, regulatory, quality, medication therapy management. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**

    + Pharmacist

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
