    Location/Division Specific Information

    This position is based at our Chelmsford, MA, and will also support out Bedford, MA, site. Position will support the BioProduction Group (BPG).

    Discover Impactful Work:

    The Scientist II will make an impact by driving raw material second-sourcing projects, including conducting characterization studies and bench builds. Perform characterization studies and analyze organic or inorganic compounds, raw materials, and finished products. Execute bench experiments effectively and develop polymer products and related processes to meet performance specifications.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    + Operate general laboratory instrumentation, including GC/MS, GC/FID, UV-Vis, FTIR, IR, Rotavap, and fluorescence spectrophotometers.

    + Work safely and independently in the lab with minimal supervision, ensuring reproducible procedures and reliable investigation results.

    + Adapt to a dynamic environment and manage activities to meet business needs while maintaining a focus on safety and quality.

    + Demonstrate strong attention to detail.

    + Apply innovative thinking to solve problems quickly and effectively.

    + Exhibit efficient interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

    + Display excellent reasoning, troubleshooting, and logical thinking abilities.

    + Collaborate as part of a team, sharing data, solving problems, and driving progress.

    + Work independently and contribute as a team member when required.

    + Demonstrate familiarity with continuous process improvement practices such as Kaizen, Gemba, 5S, and Standard Work. Basic understanding is essential.

    + Produce and present original technical materials for both internal and external audiences.

    + Comprehend and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

    + Write standard operating procedures (SOPs) and partner with cross-functional teams to transfer processes to in-house manufacturing partners.

    + Contribute to risk assessment and mitigation efforts.

    Keys to Success:

    Education

    + Bachelor degree required. Preferably in Chemistry or chemical engineering.

    + M.Sc. in Chemistry or chemical engineering is highly preferred.

    Experience

    + Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience with Bachelor degree required, or 1-3 years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree.

    + Experience with lean/process excellence methodologies is a plus.

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

    + Strong knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry, polymer synthesis, and surface modification.

    + Understanding of ISO 13485 requirements, including CAPA, risk assessments, deviation investigation, and change control processes.

    + Familiarity with statistical data analysis tools such as Minitab and JMP.

    + Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

    + Work with hazardous and toxic materials.

    + Able to work in the chemistry lab for multiple days (Up to 5 days a week).

    + Able to adapt to flexible lab schedule (could vary between 7:00 am to 7:00 pm).

    + Strong odors (Chemicals, Lubricants, biological product, etc.).

    + Some degree of PPE (Personal protective equipment) required such as safety glasses, gowning, gloves, respirator, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.

    + Ability to lift up to 40lbs.
