FAST Labs defines the next generation of technology across BAE Systems Electronic Systems (ES) sector. Internal to FAST Labs, the R3 Product Line is seeking a Research Engineer to support and/or lead programs in our Converged Solution (CS) and RF Exploitation Architectures (REXAS) Tech Areas. These Tech Areas develop novel technologies ranging from the next generation of new RF/cyber algorithms to demonstration of advanced EW capabilities in integrated systems at government ranges. A FAST Labs Research Engineer (RE) can have various roles on programs. This can range from a project technical lead owning the vision of the technical scope of work to subject matter expert called on to solve challenging multi-discipline problems within the organization. The focus of this role will be to define software and systems best practices that enable rapid development and integration of new R&D capabilities with enough design rigor and documentation to streamline technology transition into higher TRL products. Below are some detailed responsibilities of a Research Engineer in the R3 Product Line.
Responsibilities:
+ Serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Engineering Lead on higher TRL software focused research and development (R&D) programs
+ Collaborate with Program Engineering Manager (PEM) to define an executable scope for the program
+ Technical interface with to Customer, Program Management, and Executive Leadership
+ Understand requirements, use cases, missions and constraints and define an executable scope of work to meet the customer objectives
+ Subject matter experiment that can be called upon to solve challenging multi-disciplinary problems
+ Ensure software architecture design and implementation meets technical requirements and customer/mission within the cost and schedule constraints.
+ Define engineering best practices for R&D programs that enable technology transition to EMD programs
+ Provide insight and leadership of change management as R&D programs evolve over the project lifecycle
+ Mentor junior engineers to continuously build a pipeline of talent with diverse discipline (HW, SW, and Systems) experience
+ Effectively communicate with clear, concise messaging to teams and leadership
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed **full-time on site** . This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
+ Bachelor s Degree in Engineering or similar field
+ Active DoD Top Secret clearance, ability to obtain TS/SCI and SAP clearances
+ Minimum 10 years of technical experience and capabilities relevant to the business
+ Work experience across multiple disciplines (Software, Systems, and Hardware)
+ Experience with containerization (e.g. Docker) and developing software in containerized environments.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
+ Master s Degree in Engineering or similar field
+ Experience/familiarity with some of the following topics:
+ RF/Digital Signal Processing
+ Electronic Warfare, Electronic Attack, and Electronic Support Measures
+ Cyber vulnerability research and reverse engineering
+ Tactical space
+ Multi-domain operations
+ Experience in bidding, selling and winning new business
+ Model based systems engineering experience with tools such as MagicDraw and applying them to software architectures
+ Demonstrated ability to communicate technical project performance with leadership
+ Demonstrated ability to provide a technical vision and delegate tasking effectively to multi-discipline teams that could be dispersed across multiple locations
+ Demonstrated understanding of software configuration management principles, practices and tools
+ Demonstrated understanding of secure software development approaches and implementations
+ Familiarity with DoD software development approaches
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $146670 - $249330
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
