The Public Information Office (PIO) identifies opportunities to promote agency activities and initiatives, serves as HCR’s liaison with the media, and plans and executes public events. PIO values professionals that enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and who have the skills required to effectively support the department’s mission to provide the public and media with timely and accurate information and to enhance communications and relationships between New Yorkers and the agency.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Public Information Officer helps to manage and promote the internal and external messaging of New York State Homes and Community Renewal and the State of New York Mortgage Agency. The ideal candidate will have more than five years of communications and media relations experience, and exceptionally strong writing and editing skills. This role will require the ability to work under deadline in a fast-paced environment and respond to rapidly changing demands, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
+ Writing and copyediting press releases, social media messages, external emails, and other types of Agency materials;
+ Preparing responses to media inquiries and serving as an Agency spokesperson;
+ Drafting public remarks, event briefings, talking points and additional executive materials;
+ Serving as the PIO representative at public events across New York State;
+ Providing support to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information and Communications as needed; and
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism marketing or related field.
+ Three or more years of experience in communications, public relations, or marketing.
+ Ability to multi-task and efficiently manage several projects simultaneously under tight deadlines and with great attention to detail.
+ Distinctive portfolio demonstrating strong conceptual work with excellent execution of ideas
+ Effective communication and time management skills .
+ A can-do attitude, strong work ethic and enthusiasm for learning on the job.
+ Willingness to push creative boundaries while ensuring that all work follows appropriate style guides and standards.
