Position Summary: The FSQA Supervisor ensures the implementation of the Food Safety and Quality Systems of the Plant, including GMP, Food Safety, and Food Defense programs as well as supervises and coordinates both technical and nontechnical activities that contribute to a safe and well-organized laboratory. The ideal Candidate would be able to build on the technical and scientific knowledge gained through education, as well as, direct experience gained in the field. The Supervisor would be responsible for organizing ingredient or product testing, development of laboratory procedures, employee training, laboratory inventory, and staff scheduling.
Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Creates a healthy, safe and productive workplace by effectively and appropriately hiring, training, supporting and conducting performance reviews of lab/QA staff.
+ Manages (plans, organizes and directs) the daily work activities of a laboratory setting by working independently as a member of a team, meeting job expectations and adhering to organizational policies and goals.
+ Responsible for establishing priorities, driving continuous improvement in the laboratory, procedures and methods for sample handling, processing, test analysis and reporting of test results.
+ Consults with the Quality & Food Safety Manager to coordinate new equipment purchase priorities based on budget allowances, condition of existing equipment, and scheduled laboratory activities.
+ Responsible for the oversight of daily outsourced lab samples and results.
+ Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, determines solution and corrects the problems (i.e. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and coordinates repair of equipment when necessary).
+ Evaluates new equipment and/or methods and demonstrates care and use of equipment when training staff.
+ Organizes workflow and sets productivity goals while monitoring lab turn-around time on samples submitted for testing.
+ Uses both verbal and written communication in a clear, well-organized manner that effectively persuades, informs and clarifies ideas, information and lab techniques/procedures to staff and across departments.
+ Practices ethical standards of integrity, honesty and fairness.
+ Monitors and maintains laboratory-related documentation, equipment, retains and supplies necessary for conducting efficient, safe, cost-effective and hygienic laboratory operation.
+ Maintains compliance with policies, procedures and record-keeping necessary to meet standards of accreditations and regulatory agencies.
+ Acts as the back up for the Quality & Food Safety Manager and assumes these duties during any absences.
+ Follow and hold others accountable for following all company Good Manufacturing Practices.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Workplace Safety:
+ Co mpletes safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
+ Participates in mandatory safety trainings and adheres to all safety policies
+ Required to report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries
Quality & Food Safety:
+ Completes quality & food safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
+ Participates in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements
+ Preserves the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to the policies and procedures outlined. Takes actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies
+ Required to report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.
Position Requirements:
+ A Bachelor-s degree in Microbiology or Food Science, and 2 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience OR equivalent experience in a lab within a leadership capacity
+ Familiarity with ISO 17025 Accreditation preferred
Work Environment:
+ Combination of Plant and Office environment
+ Frequent exposure to elements such as odor, noise, heat, cold, dust & chemicals
