    POSITION CONCEPT:

    This position can be hired at four different levels:

    1. Modeler I

    2. Modeler II

    3. Senior Modeler

    4. Lead Modeler

     

    LEVEL: Modeler I

     

    **The Modeler I** supports the data administration, configuration, testing, and distribution of EMS (Energy Management System) models core to Electric Delivery (ED) and critical to Ops Technology & Innovation (OT&I) functions. Interpret maps and/or drawings and make and reconcile model changes in Tampa Electric’s EMS and associated systems as instructed by senior level team members. Work closely with technical team members to deliver solutions that meet the current and future objectives of ED, in alignment with company strategies and business plans. Expected to demonstrate great curiosity in pursuit of information and training that will continue their education and acclimate them to the company.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs basic configurations and tests on EMS models to help coordinate the delivery of energy to Tampa Electric’s customers. (20%)

    • Creates reports, data extracts, and queries, providing data to users, as requested. (20%)

    • Monitors supported applications to ensure data integrity and accuracy. (20%)

    • Responsible for the collection, analysis, review, documentation, and communication of business needs and requirements to IT programmers, Business Consultants, ADMS Engineers, and other technical team members. (20%)

    • Performs basic connectivity model validation and alterations in geographic information systems. (10%)

    • Supports small, non-complex projects including the evaluation of current processes, automation, and software applications with a focus on providing technological solutions in alignment with business and strategic plans. (10%)

    RELATIONSHIPS

    **Internal:** Works most closely with ADMS and EMS Modelers, Network Modelers, Designers, Business Technical Consultants, ADMS Engineers, Transmission System Operators, and Distribution System Operators. Interacts with all Electric Delivery departments within the Company and some departments outside of Electric Delivery.

    **External:** Coordinates with the Reliability Coordinator in Florida Power and Light team and neighboring utilities under the guidance of the FRCC for operating system updates.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    **Required:** High school diploma or equivalent.

    **Preferred:** Associate or technical degree in business, design, engineering, or related technology. An Associate or Bachelor Degree may substitute for some years of experience

    Related Experience

    **Required:** 2 years of experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position, working with/supporting distribution or transmission electrical system models.

     

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

    Required:

    • Proficient in development fundamentals.

    • Proficient in data collection and analysis.

    • Knowledge of power flow across electrical grid transmission and distribution devices and systems

    • Knowledge of electrical distribution circuit maps and hierarchy of electrical distribution circuits

    • Ability to read maps and schematics for distribution, substation and transmission

    • Knowledge of electrical transmission or distribution modeling practices

    • Proficient in writing queries and reports with knowledge of related technical applications

    • Ability to provide end-user support and justify decisions to clients

    • Knowledge of work management systems and workflows

    • Ability to assess processes and provide EMS system solutions

    Preferred:

    • Knowledge of Tampa Electric’s unique power grid and systems

    • Knowledge of surrounding control room functions and workflows

    • Proficiency in any of the following technical applications: GE ADMS, Model Manager, Substation Editor, FG Display Builder, E-Terra Source, GTech, G Connect, SQL, Access, WorkPro, Notepad++, Reporting Writing Tool, or Visual Studios

     

    LEVEL: Modeler II

    POSITION CONCEPT:

    **The Modeler II** will have a higher-level skill and confidence supporting the data administration, configuration, testing, and distribution of EMS models. Be proficient in interpreting maps and/or drawings and making/reconciling model changes in Tampa Electric’s EMS and associated systems as requested by various other functions of the company. Work closely with technical team members to deliver solutions that meet the current and future objectives of Electric Delivery (ED), in alignment with company strategies and business plans. Expected to manage their own tasks, take on small projects, and continue developing their technical proficiencies with current and emerging technologies.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs basic to moderate configurations and tests on EMS models to help coordinate the delivery of energy to Tampa Electric’s customers. (20%)

    • Creates reports, queries, and data extracts of low complexity, providing data to users, as requested. (20%)

    • Monitors supported applications to ensure data integrity and accuracy. (10%)

    • Responsible for the collection, analysis, review, documentation, and communication of business needs and requirements to IT programmers, Business Consultants, ADMS Engineers, and other technical team members. (10%)

    • Performs basic to moderate connectivity model validation and alterations in geographic information systems. (10%)

    • Serves as a liaison between ED and other technical groups. Develops relationships with key customers including face-to-face, on-site interactions. (10%)

    • Leads small-sized, non-complex projects including the evaluation of current processes, automation, and software applications with a focus on providing technological solutions in alignment with business and strategic plans. (10%)

    • Upskills entry level modelers in technical applications and standard operating procedures. (10%)

    RELATIONSHIPS

    **Internal:** Works most closely with ADMS and EMS Modelers, Network Modelers, Designers, Business Technical Consultants, ADMS Engineers, Transmission System Operators, and Distribution System Operators. Interacts with all Electric Delivery departments within the Company and some departments outside of Electric Delivery.

    LEVEL: Senior Modeler

    POSITION CONCEPT:

    **The Sr Modeler** operates under minimal supervision to support the data administration, configuration, testing, and distribution of EMS models. Be highly proficient in interpreting maps and/or drawings and making/reconciling any complexity of model changes in Tampa Electric’s EMS and associated systems as requested by various other functions of the company. Work closely with technical team members to deliver solutions that meet the current and future objectives of ED, in alignment with company strategies and business plans. Have greater responsibilities in managing unique projects, assessing process inefficiencies and system errors, researching emerging applications, and training and coaching other modelers on application use and Tampa Electric EMS modeling procedures.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Performs moderately complex configurations and tests on EMS models to help coordinate the delivery of energy to Tampa Electric’s customers. (20%)

    • Creates complex reports and data queries crossing multiple databases and platforms. Provides data to users, as requested. (20%)

    • Upskills less experience Modelers in technical applications and standard operating procedures. (20%)

    • Responsible for the collection, analysis, review, documentation, and communication of business needs and requirements to IT programmers, Business Consultants, ADMS Engineers, and other technical team members. (10%)

    • Serves as a liaison between ED and other technical groups. Develops relationships with key customers including face-to-face, on-site interactions. (10%)

    • Monitors supported applications to ensure data integrity and accuracy. (10%)

    • Leads moderate-large sized or complex projects including the evaluation of current processes, automation, and software applications with a focus on providing technology solutions in alignment with business and strategic plans. (10%)

    SUPERVISION

    **Direct:** None

    **Indirect:** Monitors and guides less experienced team members. May have some coordination responsibilities for the department. May act as a lead on small and medium projects.

    RELATIONSHIPS

    **Internal:** Works most closely with ADMS and EMS Modelers, Network Modelers, Designers, Business Technical Consultants, ADMS Engineers, Transmission System Operators, and Distribution System Operators. Interacts with all Electric Delivery departments within the Company and some departments outside of Electric Delivery.

    LEVEL: Lead Modeler

    POSITION CONCEPT:

    **The Lead Modeler** works independently on all phases of process analysis, redesign, and general task/project execution related to making/reconciling/analyzing geographical models of Tampa Electric’s Electrical Delivery (ED) in EMS and associated systems as requested by various functions of the company. Provides support for complex business processes, applications, and interfaces crossing multiple platforms and databases. Develop standard operating procedures for EMS modeling practices and trains less experienced Modelers on standard operating procedures and technical applications as needed. May act as an internal consultant, advocate, mentor, and change agent.

    PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provides support for complex business processes, applications, and interfaces crossing multiple platforms and databases. (20%)

    • Develops training programs, end-user documentation, and materials related to supported software applications and business processes. (20%)

    • Lead the research, evaluation, development, and implementation of new technology systems and applications to support corporate and departmental strategies and goals. Monitors supported applications to ensure data integrity and accuracy. (15%)

    • Creates complex reports crossing multiple databases and platforms. Provides data to users, as requested. (15%)

    • Serves as a liaison between Electrical Delivery and other technical groups. Develops relationships with key customers including face-to-face, on-site interactions. (10%)

    • Evaluates business processes and provides economical solutions, including leading feasibility studies and research to prepare cost/benefit justifications for technology solutions. (10%)

    • Works with business leaders and acts as a liaison between supported business areas and programming team members and/or vendors. (10%)

    SUPERVISION

    **Indirect:** May serve as the team lead for less experienced team members and backup for the Supervisor.

     

    Oversees small/medium projects and leads large projects. May assign tasks to other team members.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position primarily (~95% of time) works in a professional office environment. Occasionally (~5% of time) required to be outside “in the field” for site-meetings or projects meetings.
