Overview
Bowhead seeks a Simulator Engineer/Technician to support the U.S. Navy’s Project LINK T-45 sled structures initiative. This role is essential to overseeing the engineering, integration, and logistical coordination associated with the fabrication, shipment, and installation of 21 simulation sled units under the Rapid Design Development and Fabrication (RD2F) Lab initiative. The Simulator Engineer/Technician will ensure all technical activities align with contract specifications, engineering best practices, and Navy requirements for pilot training simulators.
Responsibilities
• Provide engineering/technical experience for procurement, fabrication, assembly and integration of the T-45 sled simulation structures.
• Interface with the Bowhead management to validate design compliance and manufacturing progress.
• Coordinate logistics and technical support for the shipment and installation phases at NAS Meridian and NAS Kingsville.
• Review technical drawings, conduct quality assurance inspections, and ensure hardware assembly meets Navy standards.
• Prepare system documentation, including technical reports, engineering change proposals (ECPs), and configuration tracking.
• Collaborate with program managers, government stakeholders, and subcontractors to meet project milestones.
• Conduct post-installation testing and verification in coordination with training system evaluators.
• Support field adjustments, reengineering, or retrofitting of sled structures as required during deployment phases.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in simulation hardware, systems engineering, or DoD-equivalent manufacturing programs.
• Proficiency with CAD platforms, technical schematics, and mechanical/electrical integration.
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage interdisciplinary engineering tasks.
• Ability to travel up to 35% as required to support site surveys, integration, and installation events.
• Must be able to handle, move and carry large boxes and components.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Department of the Navy training systems or aircraft simulation structures (Experience with T-45 sled simulation structures is a plus).
• Experience coordinating government logistics and shipping requirements (e.g., DD Form 1149, MIL-STD-130 marking compliance).
• Prior Navy simulation support experience is desired.
• Familiarity with Rapid Prototyping or RD2F-style agile fabrication pipelines.
There is currently no clearance requirement for this position; however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check and the candidate must be eligible for issuance of a Common Access Card (CAC) to access government facilities and systems. Due to the location of this work, US Citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
Work will be performed in a typical office, warehouse and field installation environment with no unusual hazards; however, the position requires frequent lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as regular kneeling, standing, walking, and extended periods of physical activity to support system assembly and integration tasks. Constant use of speech and hearing for communication, sustained mental alertness, and the ability to perform under strict deadlines are essential.
