Principal Engineer Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer to grow our tunneling design and program management services in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions **.** This position is well-suited for a talented, highly experienced individual who is interested in being a leader and contributing to innovative and challenging private and public sector projects involving large infrastructure programs and projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaboration and mentoring are pillars in the Schnabel Engineering culture. We operate under a sell-manage-do culture, and so we expect a successful candidate to be able to work on challenging technical projects while leveraging their existing knowledge and experience to help Schnabel Engineering expand its current practices and capabilities through business development and client management. Essential skills and responsibilities include:
+ Client management and overall project direction and oversight
+ Development of new business for tunnel and underground projects in collaboration with other Schnabel Engineering practice areas.
+ Cross sell services to support other practices within the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
+ Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
+ Developing and/or reviewing technical drawings, specifications, engineering documents, and analyses for: tunnel and heavy civil design.
+ Completion or review of tunnel and geo-structural design packages.
+ Providing construction engineering support to large tunnel and underground design projects.
+ Providing oversight and project management of multi-disciplinary projects and assistance in managing Client Programs.
+ Developing and maintaining strong collaborative internal (i.e., within Schnabel Engineering) and external (i.e., clients and subcontractors) relationships.
+ Mentoring and developing early career engineers.
+ Recruiting, training, and mentoring early-career engineers; and
+ Preparing task orders and proposals including scope of work, cost/fee estimates, schedule, presentations, etc.
Education and Licensure:
+ Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related discipline. (required)
+ Advanced degree in structural or geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
+ Professional registration (i.e., PE) (required)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
+ Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in the consulting industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
+ Managing complex interdisciplinary projects for private and public sector clients
+ Effective business development and client management skills
+ Leveraging multidisciplinary capabilities to win new work
+ Technical leadership for geo-structural design, and tunnel design
+ Managing successful practice growth
+ Performing tunnel and underground construction design. (required)
+ Task and project management. (required)
+ Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
The compensation range for a Principal Engineer is between $200,000 to $260,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
