    Job Description

    JOB POSITION: Vocal Music/Theatre Teacher

     

    IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

     

    SALARY: Teacher Contract

     

    CONTRACT LENGTH: School Year

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Vocal Music/Theatre teacher is a highly qualified and state certified teacher responsible

     

    for delivering Grades K-5 vocal music/theatre content in a differentiated manner that is

     

    aligned with the National Core Arts Standards using developmentally appropriate

     

    benchmarks specified in Indiana Academic Standards for Music and Theatre.

     

    This position will include a combination of classes which may include vocal and general

     

    music, choir, musical theatre, drama, and arts integration.

     

    ? Provide for choir participation at school-related and community events,

     

    such as concerts, recruiting performances, community outreach, etc.

     

    ? Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented

    program needs

    ? Coordinate fundraising activities and management of funds

    ? Facilitate cleaning, repairing, and storing all vocal music/theatre equipment

    ? Develop and implement plans for vocal music/theatre program and show

    written evidence of preparation, including lesson plans, as required

    ? Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments of student

    achievement

    ? Accompany and supervise students on field trips, when necessary

    ? Maintain open communication and professional relationships with all

    stakeholders

    ? Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and

    regulations

    ? Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures

    ? Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business

    ? Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance

    ? Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    ? Licensed and highly-qualified in the area of Vocal Music and/or theatre, K-5

    ? Musical theatre experience, highly recommended

    ? Working knowledge about arts integration

    ? Ability to manage a budget and supplies

    ? Knowledge of state, district and school policies and procedures

    ? Ability to interpret district policies, procedures and data

    ? Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

    ? Experience working in an urban environment preferred

    ? Must not currently be on a Performance Improvement Plan

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    ? Have a working knowledge of best practices in vocal/general music and theatre

    education, as well as arts integration

    ? Be familiar with age-appropriate activities and assessments in Music and Theatre

     

    from Indiana Academic Standards and National Core Arts standards and be willing to

    collaborate with colleagues on forming cross-curricular connections

    ? Implement an intentional curriculum based in creativity with a clear scope and

     

    sequence to build our program by reinforcing skills in conjunction with Nuner’s Arts

     

    Team and Grade Level teachers, especially to integrate arts content into ELA and

    Math and to integrate ELA and Math into arts content

    ? Reference instructional materials/resources recommended for the district (Making

    Music)

    ? Develop and implement plans for music/theatre program and show written evidence

    of preparation, including daily/weekly lesson plans, as required

    ? Direct an after-school group at least one day per week (Choir, Musical Cast, etc.) that

    meets for the majority of the school-year as part of contractual obligations

    ? Plan, rehearse, and direct students in a minimum of four productions per year at the

    building level, one of which is the all-school musical for which

    costumes/set/props/programs/lights/sound, etc. must be organized

     

    ? Prepare students to perform for additional school/community/extra-curricular

    performances, when scheduled (including Open Houses, Showcase of Schools, DTSB

    events, etc.)

     

    ? Attend and support colleagues as needed at rehearsals and performances for other

    arts-related school events

    ? Advocate for positive press and public relations within the community by sending

    notifications of events and participate in all Fine Arts Music/Theatre recruiting

    ? Seek out additional opportunities for our students involving local companies/studios,

    guest performers, field trips, and funding from grants

    ? Guide, motivate and involve students in differentiated learning, including

     

    understanding the principles of music and theatre, as well as specific performance

    techniques through individual and group practice and performances

    ? Enhance symbolic communication and promote self-esteem, self-motivation,

    aesthetic awareness, and cultural exposure

    ? Improve emotional expression, social harmony, relationships, team-building,

     

    cooperation, and self-confidence, and provide an avenue for growing performance

    competencies

    ? Make use of quality music and theatre literature in diverse styles that are appropriate

    in difficulty and range for students

    ? Create and communicate reasonable grading policies, classroom procedures, and

    other expectations

    ? Maintain a safe and highly engaged classroom, using appropriate materials and

     

    classroom management skills.

     

    ? Document learning/behavioral concerns and parent contacts

    ? Remain in communication with families, providing advance notice and information

    about upcoming events and student progress

    ? Complete and maintain all required student records

    ? Utilize the SBCSC technology, as required

    ? Attend corporation Fine Arts and Music/Theatre/Elementary staff meetings as

    scheduled and participate in building-wide trainings and initiatives

    ? Facilitate cleaning, repairing, storing, and updating an inventory for all music and

    theatre supplies/equipment

    ? Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business

    ? Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance and reliability

    ? Other duties as assigned

    hear. The employee is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The employee is

     

    required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. They may be occasionally required to

     

    bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include

     

    close vision, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job the

     

    incumbent is seated or walking at will and hand must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry

     

    up to 25 pounds.
