Summary:
The Application Specialist - Epic facilitates a process-driven approach to transformation, integrating process, people, technology, and methodology while supporting IT applications for Catholic Health (CH) facilities. This role is responsible for identifying and implementing software solutions to meet CH business and clinical needs, bringing vendor software solutions to CH customers, and serving as a technical liaison. Key responsibilities include system installation, maintenance, problem diagnostics, resolution, documentation, technical and functional analysis, system building, testing, and support for specific projects. Additionally, the role requires preparing specifications and documentation related to system implementation or revision while possessing a strong understanding of business and clinical processes and the technical mechanics needed to support them. Work is performed with a balance of technical expertise and problem-solving skills, an Application Specialist - Epic does so at an intermediate complexity and competency, and is a resource IT team members. Procedures for the job are general, and work is minimally supervised. Employee knows and analyzes procedures, interprets them and adapts them with discretion as necessary. In addition, the Application Specialist - Epic collaborates with the training manager, application programmers, and managers to develop and maintain training programs for various EMR applications. Serving as a developer of information technologies, educator, researcher, communicator, implementation consultant, and policy developer, this role advances healthcare through education and system optimization. Additional responsibilities include assessing, organizing, planning, implementing, and evaluating education initiatives that support business and clinical standardization efforts and information system applications. Prepare specifications and documentation related to system implementation or revision and act as a resource for associates, community resources/liaisons, and providers regarding the use of the CH EHR system.
Job Responsibilities may include:
+ Intermediate computer experience required, with personal computer applications and larger systems
+ Previous healthcare information systems support experience strongly preferred
+ Project management experience is desired
+ Candidates for a clinical team should also be familiar with regulatory requirements applicable to patient care to include, but not limited to, JCAHO, NYSDOH, HIPAA, and OSHA. Clinical team candidates should also be proficient with patient care processes commonly found across the continuum of care
+ Candidates for a Clinical team may preferably have related health care specialty experience such as Nursing, Med Tech, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Pharmacy
+ Industry Certifications recognized with preference
+ Data and communication standards to build an interoperable data infrastructure
+ Concept representation and standards to support evidence-based practice, research and education
+ Research methodologies to disseminate new knowledge into practice
+ Information presentation and retrieval approaches to support safe patient-centered care
+ Information and communication technologies to address inter-professional work flow needs across all care venues
+ Vision and management for the development, design and implementation of communication and information technology
+ Involves extensive project management, critical thinking and creativity
+ Must be able to work effectively with a variety of individuals both within and outside of CH

+ Contributes to the ongoing update of Policy and Procedure that supports CH initiatives Scope of practice will include participation in the planning, design, build, testing, implementation and evaluation of EHR within CH. The Application Specialist will play a vital role in the application of information systems in analyzing and researching business, clinical and administrative performance analytics. The Application Specialist will assist in the integration of information technology into the workflow of various internal and external departments
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
+ MS/MA: preferred and one (1) year of job experience in informatics/clinical education or computer science, business or healthcare field
+ BS/BA: strongly preferred and a minimum five (5) years of job experience in a computer science, business or healthcare field
+ Associates: required and a minimum six (6) years of job experience in a computer science, business or healthcare field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
+ Excellent verbal and written communications skills
+ Demonstrated intermediate skills with personal computer applications, including Windows, Microsoft Office applications
+ Intermediate skills with Microsoft networking, Microsoft Server, and Web-based Application delivery
+ Intermediate skills with Wireless Networking, Distributed Networks and Remote Computing, and Communications technologies
+ Excellent organizational and analytical skills
+ Ability to establish good working relationships with hospital staff at all levels
+ Demonstrated intermediate knowledge of systems analysis concepts, techniques, tools, and standards required
+ Demonstrated broad or deep systems knowledge of assigned application groups, with proficient understanding of related integration
+ Demonstrated track record of excellent project and system documentation
+ Demonstrated ability to proactively analyze and anticipate impacts of changes or modifications, technical or operational, to a complex environment
+ Demonstrated track record of facilitating discussions and decision making, including small project management
+ Ability and means to travel among CH sites
+ Ability to travel to vendor sponsored training and user events. This may include air travel and overnight stays outside of WNY
+ Ability to successfully complete any required training and/or certifications pertinent to software support

+ Ability and means to travel among CH sites
+ Position requires flexible scheduling which may include covering evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays in order to provide support.
+ Position requires routine on call assignment requiring individual to be available by phone and have access to a computer, internet access, and ability to log in. On call responsibilities may also require individual to come on site as necessary

+ Associate may represent CH IT in region. It also includes designation to provide the CH IT position on important IT matters such as design or acceptance. Associate plans and coordinates efforts of multiple resources
+ Submits info, data, or instructive content to organizations outside of Catholic Health, on behalf of CH. (i.e., HealthElink, HIE or RHIO)
