    The Amazon Branded Connected Devices (ABCD) team is looking for a talented, experienced software engineer to develop foundational device or cloud software that simplifies how customers setup, manage, and use devices. You will join a team of top-notch software developers that have successfully launched multiple category leading devices and services.

     

    A successful candidate will be responsible for developing large-scale, high performance distributed software solutions from the ground up that delivers new device capabilities to customers. In this role, you will have an opportunity to own design and development of key components. You will have influence on subsystem design and help build a team culture around practices that are critical to a quality product. Your work will directly impact the overall customer experience for millions of users worldwide.

     

    Key job responsibilities

    As a Software Development Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for:

    * Gathering requirements, designing, implementing, integrating, testing, and launching high-quality, large-scale distributed software systems that solve significant customer problems

    * Developing the best customer experience, keeping latency, security, and usability in mind

    * Working across a broad range of AWS technologies to build full-stack applications, distributed systems software and automation workflows

    * Developing solutions that scale across a broad range of Amazon Devices.

    * Collaborating with a diverse range of cross-functional roles, including engineering, product, customers and business stakeholders

    * Promoting a culture of engineering excellence by establishing best practices and technical standards across the organization

    * Leading and mentoring other talented engineers

    A day in the life

     

    SDEs at Amazon work in a fast-paced, talented team to develop innovative new-to-world product experiences that customers love and use daily.

     

    Daily activities include analyzing requirements, creating and reviewing high quality design document, code (Java, TypeScript, React, python, etc.), and test suites. They work on testing and debugging devices and services, often dealing with challenging performance requirements. They drive operational excellence and continuous improvements to deliver an exceptional customer experience.

    About the team

    The Amazon Branded Connected Devices (ABCD) team develops full stack software and services for Amazon's smart home devices like the Smart Plug, Echo Glow, and Air Quality Monitor. Their vision is to create intelligent and convenient smart home devices that enhance efficiency and work better together. The team prioritizes work-life balance, recognizing its importance for overall happiness and fulfillment.

    Basic Qualifications

    - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

     

    - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

     

    - Experience programming with at least one software programming language

    Preferred Qualifications

    - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

     

    - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
