    Job Summary:

    The Department of Agricultural Sciences at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) is seeking applications for the tenure track position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Feedlot Management. WTAMU is seeking an innovative and dynamic educator and scientist to build a nationally recognized teaching and research program in management of growing-finishing cattle that compliments established research programs in feedlot cattle nutrition and health. This position is an 11-month teaching, research, and service joint appointment within the WTAMU Department of Agricultural Sciences. WTAMU is a four-year academic institution serving the Panhandle of Texas and beyond. This region is noted for its intensive agricultural production and related agri-businesses. The Department of Agricultural Sciences has over 1,100 students, and offers B.S, M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.

    Work Performed:

    + Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in area of expertise.

    + Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

    + Active participation in departmental, university, scientific community, and industry service activities.

    + Build a dynamic research program that will attract extramural and contract funding and complement existing research programs in feedlot cattle nutrition and health and meat science. Targeted areas of research may include: sustainability and environmental impact of feedlot cattle production, individual animal management, modeling, relationships between physiology and feedlot cattle performance, animal welfare, growth and development, integrated beef systems research, and other relevant feedlot industry issues as they arise.

    + Work collaboratively with WTAMU faculty and constituents in the fed beef industry to accomplish research, teaching, and service needs.

    Necessary Qualifications:

    + Ph.D. in animal science or closely related field with emphasis on growing-finishing cattle production.

    + Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching, research, and service

    + Commitment to an interdisciplinary team approach to research and education.

    + Leadership skills, effective interpersonal communication, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive in a student-centered environment are essential qualities expected from the successful candidate.
