PURPOSE
The Research Development Officer, under direction, for the Autonomy Research Institute (ARI) will facilitate team interactions and progress for large, center-level proposal efforts. Identifies funding sources and solicitations, builds and organizes research teams to target such funding, and synthesizes research concepts to develop competitive proposals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Research: 60%
+ Support the leadership of the Autonomous Research Institute (ARI) in developing and implementing short-term and long-term strategies and programs that align with the ARI research goals and initiatives
+ Support all stages of proposal development, including analyzing funding announcements, translating research and program concepts into specific and competitive
+ Write proposal narratives for external funding; consulting with other ARI staff and University faculty in the preparation of proposals; drafting non-technical portions of proposals
+ Coordinating resources and personnel to help ARI develop highly competitive research proposals, developing project timelines and identifying and compiling proposal components
+ Manage projects that include complex multi-PI proposal preparation; editing and critiquing proposal drafts; reviewing proposals not funded to develop re-submissions, etc.
+ Develops a comprehensive understanding of the research capabilities of Applied Autonomous Systems and other disciplines and how they align with university research priorities
+ Supports strategic planning efforts of proposal teams, including logistics, alignment to solicitation and agency guidelines, and coordination of internal and external review teams that may include contracted specialists and experts
+ Develops tools and guidance documents related to proposal development and checklists for solicitation components
+ Provides support in proposal narrative development, review, consolidation, and editing
+ Networks with various offices and organizations on- and off-campus in support of proposal development
+ Facilitates planning and linkages with existing funded projects or research efforts, including smaller proposal efforts, that will complement or could be leveraged to the larger proposal effort

+ Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data
+ Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results
+ Evaluates and summarizes results
+ Supervises undergraduate and/or graduate students involved in research development
+ Prepares reports for Executive Director and other directors
+ Creates and updates documents with potential grants or proposals
+ Maintains calendar of milestones and key dates

+ Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Bachelor’s degree
+ Three (3) years of experience securing federal funding through proposal development with experience in NSF funding requests for large proposals and experience writing on scientific topics
+ Additional education/experience may be used as a substitute for the minimum education/experience requirement:
+ Associate’s degree and Five (5) years of experience securing federal funding through proposal development with experience in NSF funding requests for large proposals and experience writing on scientific topics, OR
+ Master’s degree and One (1) year of experience securing federal funding through proposal development with experience in NSF funding requests for large proposals and experience writing on scientific topics
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
+ High level of articulation and professionalism
+ Exceptional attention to detail
+ Critical thinking and proactive problem solving
+ Ability to take initiative and identify opportunities for improvement

+ Knowledge of the grant research tools
+ Understanding of a broad spectrum of research designs, methodology, and scope
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Doctoral degree
+ Seven (7) years of experience in grant writing, securing federal funding through proposal development with experience in NSF funding requests for large proposals, and experience writing on scientific topics
+ Experience with grant/proposal researching
+ Advanced skills in Smartsheet.
+ Experience in Unmanned Systems or Applied Autonomous Systems
+ Knowledge of the grant research tools
+ Experience with federal agencies
+ Experience in serving on grant review panels
+ Experience in grant writing consultation
SALARY: Up to $6,250.00 Monthly ($75,000.00 Annual, Approximately)
+ NOTE: Salary commensurate upon education/experience. This position is eligible for in-person/hybrid/fully remote flexible work arrangements.
