    + GENERAL SUMMARY

    + The Pharmacy Support Manager is responsible for managing the information technology, medication safety and financial/ business operations of the Pharmacy department. The manager is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities but seeks guidance from the director and/or upper management given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation of policy/practice or allocation of funds to resolve. Reports to the department leadership.

    + ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Plans and oversees business related activities to include but not limited to budgeting, billing and charge processes, data base maintenance, drug product contracting, drug procurement and inventory management, and monthly reporting.

    + Provides leadership to the 340B drug discount program ensuring regulatory compliance.

    + Prepares and monitors the department fiscal budget ensuring budgetary compliance.

    + Works collaboratively across the organization to ensure a proper workflow between departments and services.

    + Manages the pharmacy billing process in conjunction with Finance, Information Services and other departments within the organization.

    + Provides leadership and support to the Pharmacy Purchasing Agent on pharmaceutical and supplies procurement.

    + Performs purchasing responsibilities in the absence of the purchasing agent.

    + Serves as a member of hospital task forces and committees as assigned.

    + Performs duties as assigned.

    + LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

    + Must possess a Virginia Pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure and obtain Virginia Pharmacist licensure within three months of hire.

    + MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    + Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD and an advanced degree in business or healthcare administration required.

    + Pharmacy residency preferred.

    + Three to five years of experience in a hospital pharmacy setting with skills in budget management, medication safety and pharmacy related, information technology required.

    + Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility (including theories, principles, and concepts).

    + Knowledge of pharmaceutical procurement processes and 340b is preferred.

    + Must possess professional level of knowledge in clinical, financial, data processing or marketing systems and programs.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel and QuickBooks.

    + Excellent written and oral communication, and analytical skills necessary to resolve problems.

    + Possess technical and professional knowledge and skills unique to the business and/or operations which may include but are not limited to Prospective payment systems, Financial, Information Systems, Coding, Billing requirements (including Federal and State Regulations), and Reimbursement preferred.

    + Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility.

    + Besides managerial activities, must possess the ability to identify problems and implement solutions for financial, 340b and medication safety issues.

    + Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to direct the actions of subordinates explain hospital and department policies and procedures and communicate effectively with other professionals.

    + Must be in good standing and maintain continuing education requirements with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.

    + WORKING CONDITIONS

    + Pharmacy employees work in or near a clinical patient care environment with minimal exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, or extremes in temperature. Minimal or occasional exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Minimum adverse working conditions related to the proximity and services of the clinical healthcare services.
