    Administrative Duties

    Provide the schedules of residents for ward and elective rotations at the JMH/ UMH and any changes to the departmental office, ascertaining appropriate back-up for residents.

     

    Formally 01ient resident staff at the beginning of each rotation and obtain on-going feedback on educational and clinical issues affecting training at JMH/UMH.

     

    Provide leadership to the training program through pmiicipation in the Education Committee, Clinical Competence Committee, Selection Committee, resident interview and recruitment process.

     

    Supervise, monitor and give feedback on attendance/ professionalism for the 20% of residents in your portfolio

     

    On-site morning responsibilities at UMH throughout the academic year

     

    JMH/UMH Afterhours responsibilities to be divided between three

     

    UM-JMH chief residents

     

    Pull beeper responsibilities to be divided between all 5 CMR's

     

    Educational DutiesFormal Educational Activities

     

    Cuniculum and Core Conferences: coordinate, attend, and critique the core cunicular conferences

     

    Emergency Lecture Series - for the first two months of the academic year

     

    Patient Safety Conference: In conjunction with the Chief of Medicine and Residency Program Director, select the case to be discussed, the specific learning objectives to be addressed and the faculty mentor. Provide a short synopsis of the case, and the lessons derived from the review (two paragraphs) for submission to the depmimental PI Committee.

     

    Journal Club: Share with VA chiefs the planning and execution ofJournal clubs.

     

    Morning Repmi: While the Chief or a substitute faculty will always be present at morning report, the CMRs are responsible for identifying and tracking cases and clinical questions, and for educational follow-up of issues raised. For intern's repo1t, a primarily educational exercise, the CMR is responsible for choosing the case in conjunction with the intern, assuring the intern is adequately prepared and focusing on the discussion and providing a relevant reference addressing the case.

     

    Subspecialty Morning report - HIV/ Heme-One/ Cardiology morning report Tuesdays at 11ain

     

    Chief Rounds - assign a team each week for Tuesday 11am chief rounds - medical student to present the case at bedside with chair of medicine or program director when not available.

     

    RSAP presentations 6 sessions per year

     

    Board Review - develop with subspecialty and core faculty and fellows Board Review lectures at the end of the academic year

     

    Bedside Student precepting with Med-Ed

     

    Schedule Morning Report Fridays 8am with Heme-One at Sylvester

     

    Unit Director Rounds once weekly- WWI 5

     

    Intern Academic Rounds - once weekly

     

    Hand-off I sign-out rounds - once weekly

     

    Grand Rounds Presentations - coordinate with Isabel and Dr. Gelbard

     

    Uphold the Standards of Training

     

    Assure that the number of admissions, transfers of care, and hours worked are approp1iate and in compliance with the ACGME guidelines.

     

    Assist in monitoring the stress of trainees and enhance the espiiit-de-corps of the program.

     

    Help determine that the educational environment is appropriate and positive.

    Clinical Responsibilities

    Attend on the Medical Se1vice for FIVE 2-week blocks divided between UMH and JMH

     

    Available for back-up in case of emergency for an additional two week block

     

    Continuity clinic attending for JMH Ambulato1y clinics

     

    JMH Chiefs 2 half-days per week

     

    UMH Chief 1 half day per week

     

    Notify the Program Director about issues that affect or potentially affect patient care throughout the hospital, whether patient-specific or service-specific.

     

    Personal Growth and Responsibilities

    Select a scholarly activity for personal growth during the year:

    a) a personal continuity clinic, b) a subspecialty competence to pursue or, c) a research or quality improvement project.

     

    As a UM employee and because of the importance of your position in the Department of Medicine, it is expected that you will: a) notify the department/chief of planned absences and coverage, b) be available by beeper according to a pre-set schedule

    Educational meetings include regional Spring and winter ACP meeting, and National ACP meeting (or equivalent) during the academic year

     

    Specific Roles

     

    UMH CMR- working with Drs. Jessica Zuleta and Efren Manjarrez and Yvonne Diaz to develop and implement UMH site specific educational activities and guidelines

     

    JMH CMR 1 - working with Drs. Yvonne Diaz, Marco Gonzalez and Erin Marcus to develop and implement Ambulatory based educational and administrative guidelines

     

    JMH CMR 2 - working with Drs. Joshua Lenchus and Stephen Symes to develop and implement JMH site specific educational activities, as well as Sylvester site specific activities
