Our Transportation Team in Baltimore is seeking a Transit Data Scientist to work full time in MTA’s Office of Performance Management and work closely with the Manager of Data Analytics & Performance Programs. The MTA’s Office of Performance Management oversees end-to-end management of data and metrics related to all aspects of MTA’s performance. This includes transit operations, planning, and administrative support functions. When you join us as a Transit Data Scientist you’ll coordinate with internal stakeholders on various databases, write queries, create data visualization tools in Power BI, and provide ongoing support for OPM’s ETL (extraction, transformation, loading) processes. The Office of Performance Management is housed within MTA’s Office of Customer Experience. This position may require on-site time at various MTA operations facilities throughout the Baltimore region.

    Additional responsibilities in this role will include:

    • Conducting meetings with data owners, database administrators and subject matter experts.

    • Supporting OPM’s Power BI 2initiatives and inquiries.

    • Developing SQL queries and data pipeline engineering processes (automated ETL)

    • Developing Key Performance Indicator calculation methodologies.

    • Creating data visualization tools.

    • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, statistics, etc.

    • Previous professional experience in a data science role with a focus on transit operations

    • Familiarity with local transit agencies in the Baltimore-Metro Region

    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

    • Understanding of relational database architecture and management.

    • Proficiency in SQL.

    • Proficiency in scripting language such as R or Python.

    • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau or other data visualization software a plus.

    • Ability to travel locally as needed
