    Job Qualifications

    Job Title: Behavior Specialist

     

    Reports to: Building Principals

     

    Position Overview: The Behavior Specialist supports a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment by promoting positive student behavior and providing leadership in behavioral and social-emotional learning (SEL) practices. This role focuses on proactive behavior interventions, coaching staff in effective discipline strategies, and collaborating with families to support student growth. Ideal candidates may have experience as a building administrator, dean of students, school social worker, or school psychologist.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

     

    + Deliver and support SEL instruction aligned with district frameworks.

    + Collaborate with teachers to integrate SEL into classroom practices.

    + Monitor and assess SEL program effectiveness and student progress.

     

    Staff Support & Professional Development

     

    + Coach and train staff on effective behavior management, adolescent development, trauma-informed practices, and restorative approaches.

    + Support teachers with individualized behavior strategies and classroom interventions.

    + Facilitate team discussions around student behavior supports and discipline procedures.

     

    Behavior Intervention & Prevention

     

    + Develop and implement school-wide systems for proactive behavior support (e.g., PBIS, MTSS).

    + Analyze behavior data to identify trends and intervene before escalation.

    + Lead or participate in student support team meetings and behavior intervention planning.

     

    Restorative Practices & Code of Conduct

     

    + Guide the implementation of restorative practices to address conflicts and misconduct.

    + Help staff and students understand and apply restorative approaches to repair harm and rebuild relationships.

    + Serve as a liaison in managing disciplinary issues in accordance with the school code of conduct.

     

    Family & Community Engagement

     

    + Partner with families to address behavioral concerns and collaboratively develop support plans.

    + Communicate behavioral expectations and processes clearly and constructively to parents and guardians.

    + Participate in community outreach and initiatives that support student well-being.

    Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field (Master’s preferred).

    + Valid state certification/licensure in one or more of the following: School Administration, School Psychology, School Social Work, or related field.

    + Minimum of 5 years of experience in a school setting is preferred; prior work in student behavior support, counseling, or administration is highly desirable.

    + Strong understanding of adolescent development, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices.

    + Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

    Preferred Background:

    + Experience as a school administrator, dean of students, school psychologist, or social worker.

    + Training in restorative justice, PBIS, MTSS, or similar frameworks.

    Compensation:

    + $65,000-$75,000
