NC Salary Grade NC09: $39,671-69,426
This position will serve as an Engineering Technician II within Division 14, District II Office. This position will be responsible for various duties including but not limited to conducting on-site inspections for compliance with NCDOT standards for driveway connection construction, encroachment construction and subdivision street construction. It will also monitor the illegal use of highway right-of-way for signs, utilities and private activities. This position will assist with collecting field data needed for the review of driveway permits, site plans, utility and non-utility encroachment agreements, subdivision plans, and road additions/abandonments. This position will meet with utility representatives, contractors, property owners, and others to discuss adherence to policies and procedures, answer questions, and address complaints from the general public by telephone, written correspondence, or in person. This position will assist the Division as needed during emergencies and inclement weather. This position will also assist the District Engineer with other tasks as assigned.

Additional Expectations:
Position requires that employee have a close visual acuity to use testing instruments and equipment, to read plan details, to make accurate field measurements, and inspect roadway and structure component, and to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. Employee may be expected to exercise limited decision making and judgement. Must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes and other tools on steep and rough terrain. Must be able to apply Department safety program to operations. Must be able to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, and traversing rough, steep, and uneven terrain. Employee in this position will be subject to high volumes of traffic and extreme temperatures/weather conditions. Must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing. Safely perform manual tasks involving the use of bush axes, sledgehammers and other tools. Work includes emergency situations, nights, and weekends. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
