Description
Seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Network Security Architect to join the IT Security team, in the Houston area. The ideal candidate will serve as a critical technical consultant, ensuring security design aligns with business objectives, network architecture, and technical standards. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and expertise in designing and implementing advanced network security strategies.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
+ Serve as a technical consultant to design systems that address business needs while adhering to security and technical standards.
+ Monitor and analyze network traffic to detect unusual activity or potential security breaches. Investigate any anomalies or threats.
+ Configure and manage firewalls to enforce security policies and control traffic flow, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
+ Assist in incident response and remediation for emerging and ongoing security threats.
+ Recommend, design, and deploy network security controls to facilitate secure systems development.
+ Collaborate with users and management to define complex business security requirements.
+ Perform comprehensive end-to-end security evaluations of existing and incoming technologies to ensure compliance with IT security (ITSEC) standards.
+ Provide detailed advisory reports and recommendations based on findings from security reviews.
+ Ensure alignment of proposed and existing network security architectures with organizational goals.
+ Research and recommend emerging technologies to enhance cost-effectiveness and flexibility within systems.
+ Maintain up-to-date knowledge of cybersecurity tools, techniques, and vulnerabilities.
+ Develop and document procedures for securely managing internal systems.
+ Regularly conduct security assessments and audits for IT applications and infrastructure to identify vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and process gaps.
Requirements
Education, Experience, and Skills
To qualify for the role, candidates must possess the following competencies:
Required Education and Experience
+ A high school diploma or equivalent.
+ A minimum of 5–8 years of experience in information security, preferably as a Security Engineer or Security Architect.
+ Proven expertise in:
+ Solutions design, configuration, and implementation.
+ Network architecture, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, web filtering, and physical security control systems.
+ Emerging technologies such as Cloud Platforms, Internet of Things, and Mobile BYOD, including associated security risks.
+ Encryption technologies, network protocols, and Cloud-native authentication mechanisms (e.g., OAuth, OpenID, SAML).
Level-Specific Requirements
+ Senior IT Specialist: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 5–8 years of relevant experience.
+ Lead IT Specialist: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 8+ years of relevant experience.
+ Principal IT Specialist: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 10+ years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills and Certifications
+ A degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related discipline.
+ Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP).
+ Familiarity and experience with:
+ Cisco’s security product suite.
+ Firewall and proxy administration.
+ Network access control mechanisms and analytics.
+ Multi-OS environments including iOS, Android, and Windows 10.
+ Cybersecurity standards such as NIST.
+ ITIL processes, tools, and terminology (ITIL certification preferred).
+ Proficiency in identifying vulnerabilities in infrastructure and software.
+ Strong interpersonal, written, oral, and problem-solving skills.
