    Job Summary

    The Trent Lott National Center (TLNC) at the University of Southern Mississippi offers an exciting opportunity for a Summer Student Worker in economic development. The TLNC fosters economic development training and research in strategic planning, leadership development, community analysis, and other technical support for businesses, local governments, nonprofits, and public entities.

     

    As a Summer Student Worker (SW), you will gain hands-on experience working on economic development projects across the Southeast United States. This position will expose you to core economic development principles and allow you to assist communities, businesses, and local governments in attracting new industries and expanding existing ones. As well as many daily business office task, as assigned.

     

    Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Assist in economic development projects and research across the Southeast.

    + Help communities and businesses with strategic planning and positioning to attract or expand industries.

    + Work on business retention, marketing, and community analysis projects.

    + Support economic development efforts using data-driven strategies.

    + Gain exposure to real-world challenges faced by economic development professionals.

    + Assist with the marketing and planning of the True South Basic Economic Development Course.

    + Assist with the marketing and planning of the Advanced Economic Development Leadership Course.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Proficient in Microsoft Office

     

    Knowledgeable with Canva and Constant Contacts

     

    Familiar with IMPLAN and JOBSEQ software

     

    General knowledge of basic office skills and technology

     

    Professional appearance and behavior

     

    High School Diploma

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

     

    + The ideal candidate should have a basic understanding of business administration, finance, real estate, marketing, and communications—areas commonly covered in MBA programs. While this position offers practical experience, a strong foundation in these fields will enable you to make a more immediate contribution.
