What you'll do The Bassett Security Supervisor, under the general supervision of the Network Director of Security and Transportation and Manager of Security Operations, provides general oversight and direct consultation to one of the following assigned locations: A.O. Fox Hospital and Bassett Medical Center. The Security Supervisor will provide guidance in matters of physical and personnel security, plan, directs, and coordinate security activities to safeguard company assets, employees, visitors, or others. The Supervisor is responsible to maintain strong relationships and communication contacts for emergency preparedness and security with New York State Police, County Sheriff Office, and local law enforcement officials in the vicinity. The Supervisor interprets information regarding criminal activities including assaults, drug or narcotic related matters, and protective orders for leadership and general staff. Maintains staffing structure and assesses staff performance. Appropriately maintains work schedules for Security Officers. Oversees distribution of departmental equipment and issued items such as uniforms. Ensures all required reports are adequately completed and processed in a timely fashion. Takes immediate disciplinary action with job performance compliance issues. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, JCAHO, DOH, CDC, and Homeland Security in Security and Safety related disciplines. Identifies security or safety risks and implements procedures or protocol to mitigate potential risks. Note: Ongoing possibility of safety risks. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions while responding to or performing security operations on all shifts. Work regularly requires sustained concentration. Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations, Ability to decipher different alarm sounds, Ability to function effectively under stress. If applicable, must obtain minimum score of 230 or higher on the NYS Basic Course for Police/Security Officers with a B-27 target. Officer failing to meet the standard will be given remediation training and a second attempt at meeting the standard. Qualifications with the duty firearm will be held annually, in accordance with NYS rules and regulations, and any additional firearms training required by the Network Director of Public Safety of Transportation. Proven ability to motivate teams by demonstrating value-based leadership. Must have extensive experience and highly proficient working knowledge of CCTV systems, access control systems, and fire suppression systems. Extensive knowledge of all applicable NYS, Federal and healthcare related codes and regulations. Partners with the Network Director of Security and Transportation and Manager of Security Operations to develop and maintain department structure & operational procedures to meet & anticipate organizational demands Assists with developing and monitoring operational procedures and performance standards, which ensure safe, effective and efficient daily operations Provides direction to ensure appropriate resource availability Assists with developing strategies and implements objectives to ensure efficient and effective departmental performance, which correlates with the institutional annual operating plan Maintains a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by enforcement of all hospital policies, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations Ensures all Security Officers conduct a minimum of one internal and external security patrol each shift Ensures all Security Officers take immediate action when codes or other emergencies arise on the campus Ensures all Security Officers review all organizational policies and procedures annually and provide feedback on recommended changes to existing or new policies Ensures all Security Officers respond to all calls for service within 5 minutes, responding to emergencies immediately Partners with division colleagues Emergency Preparedness and Incident Command Develops a staffing structure, which supports departmental objectives Develops a staff schedule to meet organizational needs Provides direction to ensure appropriate distribution of staffing resources May assist in staff selection through the interview process Participates in retention-related activities Assesses, develops and implements plan for staff orientation, development and education Assesses team performance & provides timely, constructive feedback Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory requirements Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements, such as OSHA, JCAHO, DOH, CDC, and Homeland Security, in conjunction with the Network Director of Security and Transportation and Manager of Security Operations Proactively identifies safety-related issues, addresses identified issues, and institutes procedures which minimize risks to patients and staff. Encourages team to do same Reports and acts to correct compliance and risk-related issues Proactively, professionally communicates to facilitate effective operations and patient safety Schedules and directs staff meetings on a regular basis Attends and participates in meetings as requested Routinely communicates with customers to assess needs and provide feedback Participates in multidisciplinary committees, work groups and teams to facilitate efficient and effective operations, education, and improved patient & employee safety Ensures effective documentation systems are established & sustained in the provision of safety and patient care Establishes and maintains effective performance improvement processes within the department Identifies areas for performance improvement Plans, acts and evaluates effectiveness of improvement measures Tracks and reports performance improvement activities as appropriate and/or required by organizational guidelines Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed What we need from you Education: High School or GED, required 2 Year/Associate Degree, preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years experience as a Security Officer in a public or private security force, or 2-years active military service with Honorable Discharge, required Completion of official police or peace officer training academy, preferred This training may replace some required certifications Licensure/Certificates: Must possess a valid NYS Class D Driver's License and maintain eligibility of insurability to operate the organizations vehicles, required Valid NYS Pistol Permit, preferred Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License or NYS Certified Police Officer/Peace Officer, preferred CPR/AED and First Aid, required Aerosol Subject Restraint (Pepper Spray) Certification, required Completion of official police or peace officer training academy may substitute ICS 100, 200, 300, 700, 800 Certification, preferred Skills: Accountability Adaptability Build Relationships Communication Conflict Resolution Critical Thinking Enforcing Rules Interacting with People Logical Thinking Multi-Tasking Mediation Persuade Others Research Activities/Investigation Time Management Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects Occasional balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking Constant fit testing Hazards: Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, burns, chemical, electrical, explosives, mechanical, radiation/radiant energy Working conditions: Occasional extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, wet and/or humid, dust, fumes, gases, mists, odors Travel: Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time-to-time, but not on a regular basis Total Rewards Bassett Healthcare Network’s commitment to our employees includes benefit programs carefully designed with the needs and values of all our employees in mind. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
