    Field Service Engineer – Industrial Automation & Robotics

     

    _(Up to 85% Travel Required)_

     

    We are seeking a highly skilled **Field Service Engineer** with strong industrial automation, robotics, and PLC experience to join a leading manufacturer of plastics processing and automation machinery. This position involves supporting customers across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico through installation, troubleshooting, and optimization of complex equipment and systems.

    Summary

    In this role, you will provide technical support both remotely and on-site, performing installations, repairs, and process optimization of industrial machinery. You will be expected to efficiently troubleshoot systems, update software, and deliver excellent customer service while working collaboratively with technical teams and end users.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Troubleshoot, repair, and commission advanced plastics processing and automation equipment

    + Provide training and technical support to customers on-site and remotely

    + Generate detailed service reports including time, cost, work completed, and recommendations

    + Collaborate with cross-functional technical teams and assist in large-scale installations

    + Lead or mentor junior service technicians when necessary

    + Adhere to customer site safety and documentation requirements

    Required Technical Skills

    Industrial Robot Experience (Fanuc, KUKA, Motoman, ABB, Linear robots):

    + Job creation/modification

    + IO mapping

    + Image reload

    + Software updates

    + Integration with external systems

    PLC Programming (Siemens TIA Portal / Step7 or Allen-Bradley):

    + Ladder diagram, structured text, instruction list

    + IO modules, safety circuits, drives, vision systems, HMIs

    + Networking: Ethernet/IP, ProfiNET, Profibus

    General Requirements:

    + Must be comfortable troubleshooting and modifying existing programs/systems

    + Experience building programs/systems from scratch is a plus

    Preferred Competencies

    + Effective time management and verbal/written communication skills

    + Ability to read and interpret chemical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics

    + Hands-on proficiency with mechanical/electrical tools and lifting equipment

    + Understanding of equipment functions including presses, conveyors, and robots

    + Familiarity with E-Stop circuits, mechanical assemblies, and pneumatic systems

    + Competency using workflow software (MS Office, SAP, Innosoft, Concur)

    + Self-motivated with a focus on learning and development

    + Strong decision-making and results orientation

    Physical Demands & Environment

    + Must be able to lift/move 50+ lbs, climb, crouch, and work in manufacturing environments

    + Exposure to loud machinery and moving mechanical parts

    + Travel up to 85% with overnight stays, including multi-week assignments

    Qualifications

    + High school diploma or equivalent required

    + 3–5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or technical field
