We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Sr Communications Specialist on our Marketing & Membership Experience team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.
This position develop and execute communications strategies and digital communications that support the AMA mission of improving the health of the nation and advance positive narratives about the organization’s strategic priorities. Contribute to digital communications designed to engage AMA members and the wider medical community and enhance the AMA brand perception.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writing and Content Development
+ Develop data informed communications strategies for assigned topics, applying content marketing principles, and ensuring that strategy is informed by nuances of the issue
+ Generate ideas for digital content, narratives, and campaigns
+ Review data analytics for publications and make recommendations for future content and placement
+ Research and write content for the AMA site including news, educational and promotional posts
+ Write and assist editorial planning of a variety of email communications
+ Create content with research from internal and external sources, and by interviewing subject matter experts inside and outside the AMA
+ Collaborate with the creative team to develop graphics and multimedia content
+ Collaborate on coverage of AMA meetings—including semi-annual House of Delegates meetings, two major advocacy conferences, quarterly medical education meetings and other events
Editing
+ Assist with editing content of other contributors
May include other responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Additional Skills and Experience
+ Bachelor's Degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related discipline required. Master’s degree in related field preferred.
+ 7+ years experience in journalism, public relations, marketing communications or related field required. A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in health care.
+ Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines needed, and demonstrated experience writing high-quality content within this environment.
+ Polished interpersonal and persuasive skills needed, especially the ability to develop relationships both internally and externally and build others’ confidence in your communications expertise.
+ Expert working knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style.
+ Proven ability to write in various digital forms, including newswriting, promotional writing, blogging, opinion writing and ghostwriting.
+ Experience in publications editing and communicating through social media.
+ Experience in online publishing and email marketing required.
+ Experience with performance analytics, such as Google Analytics, preferred.
+ Excellent written communication and interviewing skills required.
+ Strong working knowledge of marketing communications and content marketing required.
+ Proven experience in developing and executing effective communications strategies required.
+ Polished verbal communication and presentation skills.
+ Solid research skills needed, especially use of the Web, publications and subject matter experts.
+ Strong customer/client service skills.
+ Skilled at performing in a team environment as well as being a strong individual contributor.
+ Occasional travel required.
This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $85,680- $113,526. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
