    Overview

     

    Tanaq Government Services (TGS) delivers professional support services, engineering and project management, facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M), airfield support services, and logistics support services to federal agencies and the Department of Defense. TGS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders.

     

    About the Role

     

    We are seeking a full-time **Watch/Building Engineer** to provide support at the Bowie Computer Center. One Engineer per shift will be designated as the “Watch Engineer”. The Watch Engineer designation will be rotated on a daily basis and will be identified by a “W” (next to your shift hours) on the monthly work schedule (ex. 8W). The Watch Engineer duties will be recognized as the Primary Shift Requirement. This means, when there is only one Engineer on site, that Engineer will assume the “Watch Engineers” responsibilities and will monitor the facility. The Watch Engineer will only abandon his/her responsibilities for emergency issues, short-term issues, non-critical alarms or to temporarily assist the Building Engineer, etc.

     

    This is an entirely onsite position in Bowie, MD.

    Responsibilities

    Log Book Entries

    + Maintain entries of both the Operations Center and NVE Office logbooks.

    + Maintain proper Logbook format.

    + Indicate in the Logbook as to who is the Watch Engineer for the shift.

    + The Watch Engineer will review all past logbook entries and will ensure that all Building Engineers are aware of all issues and/or concerns that have been entered in the Logbook. (All specific issues relating to building and equipment statuses must be verified with the Building Engineers.)

    + If deemed necessary, the Watch Engineer may require that the Building Engineer(s) review specific logbook entries, for proper comprehension of the issues.

    + The Watch Engineer will be responsible or listing “ALL” building activities, all Pass On Issues and all events associated with his shift.

    + This includes knowing and listing all Engineer activities, all Contractor activities and any other building activities or equipment issues that exist.

    + Logbook entries will be entered consistently up to the end of the shift. Entries should not exceed an Hourly basis.

    + The final entry must indicate by whom are you being relieved.

    Incident and Work Order Reporting

    + In the event of an incident or emergency the Watch Engineer will gather Data, Print Outs, and will provide detailed reports concerning incidents and events that occurred during the shift. If time runs out, the relief Watch Engineer will follow up on all unfinished reporting requirements.

    + Any follow up or passed on repair issues will be written up on a Work Order Report, this includes work required by contractors as well as NVE. Any maintenance, repair, calibration, or adjustments performed by the Watch Engineer will require a Work Order Report.

    Facility Tour

    + The Watch Engineer will be responsible for touring the facility at the beginning of the shift and every two hours thereafter.

    + This includes inspection of all mechanical spaces, all equipment, all Liebert units and a tour of the Administration area.

    + While performing the tours the Watch Engineer should take note of and log any other activities occurring within the facility.

    Equipment Log Readings

    + The Watch Engineer is responsible for recording the Chiller and UPS Equipment readings.

    + The log readings are conducted twice per shift, once during the first building tour and once during the third building tour.

    Alarm Monitoring

    + The Watch Engineer and the Building Engineer are both required to respond to the Pager Alarms.

    + During a critical alarm or emergency the Watch Engineer will maintain a presence at the EMCS and DataTrax computers while the Building Engineer investigates the alarm.

    + The Watch Engineer will delegate all Critical Alarms and Emergencies to the Building Engineer(s).

    + The Watch Engineer should investigate critical alarms when the Building Engineer(s) is not available.

    Non-Critical Alarms

    + The Watch Engineer should investigate and attempt to clear all non-critical alarms when the Building Engineer is occupied.

    + Water Seeker alarms, smoke detector “Trouble” alarms, Humidity and High-water alarms, etc. should be checked out first by the Watch Engineer, if a real problem does exist, the issue should be passed on to the Building Engineer.

    Fire Alarm System

    + The Watch Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, acknowledging, disabling and enabling the FAS.

    EMCS and DataTrax

    + The Watch Engineer is responsible for monitoring the computer systems except when conducting the tour or when addressing emergency or minor issues.

    Miscellaneous Duties

    + The Watch Engineer may address short-term miscellaneous duties and minor customer requests, package deliveries, etc

    Requirements

    Required Experience and Skills

    + Should be knowledgeable in the safe and proper use of the following tools: ladders, lifts, basic hand tools, safety goggles, ear protection, and fire extinguisher.

    + Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    + Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Have the ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.

    + Ability to obtain government clearance.

    + Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

    Education and Training

    + Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to satisfactory job performance would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be: Two years’ experience in a semi-skilled and skilled electrical, HVAC, plumbing construction, maintenance and/or repair work.

    + A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum four (4) years of experience in the building maintenance industry and accredited trade school degree in HVAC, electronic, or other industry related trade. Union training and certification is also acceptable.

    Physical Requirements

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

     

    + Must have ability to stoop, stand, climb, frequently lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment and safely install equipment and/or devices.

    + Regularly required to crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.

    + Involves movement between departments, floors, and properties to facilitate work.

    + Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.

    + Ability to read and understand information presented orally and in writing.

    + Regularly required to utilize vision abilities, allowing reading of printed material, drawings, and schematics.

     

    May be the only Watch/Building Engineer on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority/emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work and/or on call duties.

     

    Pay Range

     

    The projected hourly pay for this position is $42.51/hour USD.

     

    Benefits Information

     

    This is a Union position. Benefits, vacation, holiday and sick leave offered will be as defined under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
