    What will you do?

     

    We are seeking an experienced Tax Auditor to perform state and local tax audits specializing in sales and use tax. As an Out of State Auditor you will audit, examine, and analyze accounting records to determine the financial condition or compliance with tax code for an assigned organization or program and prepare financial reports concerning operating procedures.

    Which qualifications are required?

     

    Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field AND Three years of auditing experience.

     

    Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field AND One year of required experience at the lower level Out of State Auditor 1 (FIP111) or position equivalent.

    POSITION SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    This position requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field AND a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours in Accounting. Please attach a copy of your unofficial transcript or list of Accounting courses to your profile. Candidates must have knowledge of tax assessment protests, the Streamlined Sales Tax Act, tax exemption, and the tax penalty waiver process.

     

    Applicants who have obtained an advanced degree, CMI or CPA designation may receive priority consideration.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

    • Perform audits and reviews in accordance with Georgia Tax Law, regulations, published guidance, and training materials.

    • Perform analysis of general ledgers, bank statements, contracts, payroll, journal entries, and source documentation.

    • Prepare briefs identifying and explaining audit issues.

    • Catalog and house supporting documents in secured systems.

    • Prepare and substantiate audit findings with supporting workpapers.

    • Three (3) years of professional accounting experience in the private industry, public accounting, or government sector with an emphasis on conducting state tax audits or representing taxpayers in them

    • The ability to work beyond an 8 hour day when necessary

    • Ability to travel; s ome in-state travel and occasional overnight out-of-state travel may be required .

    Preferred Criteria:

    + 2 years of Sales Tax audit experience

    • A thorough understanding of the implementation of Georgia Tax law

    • A master’s degree in business administration , preferably accounting

    • A CMI or CPA designation

    • Completing of training on a variety of tax topics

    • Work experience with this Department, Division, and/or unit

     

    For this role, the Georgia Department of Revenue also conducts an MVR Check. Additionally, a criminal background check & state of Georgia tax records check is conducted on all new hires and you are required to have filed a State of Georgia tax return for the past five years.

    This is a work from home position; however, a valid driver’s license is required, as this position may be required to travel at least 10% of the time.
