    Position: Project Engineer – Systems

    **Location:** Methuen, MA

    Position Summary:

    Our rapidly growing medical robotics division is searching for enthusiastic Systems Engineers passionate about integrating complex technologies to drive innovation in surgical robotics. As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and validation of medical robotic systems, ensuring that electrical, mechanical, and software components work seamlessly together. You will work alongside top surgeons, cross-functional engineering teams, and regulatory experts to bring cutting-edge medical devices to market.

     

    This position requires a holistic engineering mindset, blending expertise in electrical, mechanical, and software systems to drive product development from concept through commercialization.

    Essential Functions:

    + **System Architecture & Design:**

    + Develop and refine system-level requirements based on customer needs and regulatory constraints.

    + Define and integrate electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems into a cohesive, high-performance medical device.

    + Identify and mitigate system-level risks through robust design and testing strategies.

    + **Integration & Validation:**

    + Lead hardware-software integration, ensuring optimal performance of navigated surgical systems.

    + Develop and execute verification and validation plans, including test protocols for system reliability, safety, and compliance.

    + Troubleshoot multi-disciplinary design challenges involving embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and networking components.

    + **Technical Collaboration & Leadership:**

    + Work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, mechanical, and software engineers to resolve technical issues and improve designs.

    + Collaborate with regulatory and quality teams to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA regulations).

    + Assist in supplier and manufacturing support, including componentselection, prototyping, and production scale-up.

    + **Project Management & Documentation:**

    + Manage system engineering tasks across the full product development lifecycle.

    + Maintain design documentation, risk analyses, and traceability matrices.

    + Drive system design reviews and technical assessments to optimize product reliability and performance.

    Qualifications:

    + **Education & Experience:**

    + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, or related field.

    + 3-5+ years of experience in system engineering, product development, or multi-disciplinary engineering projects.

    + Experience working in medical devices, robotics, or other regulated industries is highly desirable.

    + **Technical Expertise:**

    + Strong understanding of system integration principles, including electrical, mechanical, and software interactions.

    + Experience with control systems, embedded hardware, electromechanical systems, and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, Ethernet).

    + Familiarity with circuit design, sensor integration, FPGA/microcontroller interfaces, and real-time embedded systems.

    + Proficiency with electrical and mechanical simulation tools, system modeling, and reliability analysis.

    + **Regulatory & Compliance:**

    + Knowledge of medical device standards such as IEC 60601, ISO 14971, and IEC 62304.

    + Experience with risk management processes and failure mode analysis (FMEA, FTA).

    + **Problem Solving & Collaboration:**

    + Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to work across engineering disciplines.

    + Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and team collaboration.

    + Self-motivated with strong project management and time management skills.

    + **Tools & Software:**

    + Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Altium ,Solidworks or similar tools.

    + Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git, SVN, Windchill).

    Physical Demands:

    + Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.

    + Capable of lifting/moving up to 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs occasionally.

    + Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
