We currently have an exciting position for an engineer in the field of ceramic material development to work in our Nuclear Technologies & Materials division within GA-Electromagnetic Systems in support of GA’s ceramic composite material development. Under general supervision an on-going review, this position is responsible for supporting fabrication and process development of advanced ceramic matrix composite materials subject to extreme environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Supports the design and implementation of novel fabrication methodologies for ceramic matrix composites, including silicon carbide-based composites, to demonstrate performance for different application needs.
+ Supports in lab fabrication activities, including running of specialized equipment and high temperature furnaces to produce parts and samples to meet customer specifications.
+ Supports troubleshooting, analysis, and repairing systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles.
+ Documents processing conditions, findings, and measurement results and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings and participates in program reviews.
+ Manages acquired test data for historical tracking
+ Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
+ Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices

Job Qualifications:
+ Typically requires a bachelors degree in materials science, engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education
+ Must demonstrate technical competency in lab environments
+ Must possess the ability to learn quickly and execute detailed instructions
+ Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
+ General knowledge of the fabrication and processing of ceramic or carbon composites, including silicon carbide and ceramic matrix composite (or alternatively polymer matrix composite) materials is desired.
+ General knowledge of chemical vapor deposition, prepreg, and pre-ceramic polymers is desired.
+ General understanding and experience in the use of high temperature processing equipment is desired.
+ Must possess the ability to design and execute test plans.
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required.
