General Job Description
This is a professional position responsible for administering comprehensive parent and family programming. Responsible for planning, developing, marketing, implementing, evaluating, and revising parent and family programs, activities, initiatives, and events; assisting in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies and procedures; and supervising assigned staff. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, New Student Orientation and Family Programs.
Essential Job Functions
1. Oversees and provides direction for comprehensive student life parent and family programming functions, including assigned social media accounts.
2. Plans, markets, implements, and evaluates programs, activities, initiatives, and events related to the area of responsibility, including but not limited to parent and family orientation programs, family day, and sibling orientation. Assists with New Student Orientation.
3. Collaborates with various business leaders, Chamber of Commerce, and Convention and Visitors Bureau to plan and implement events to welcome students, parents, and families to the community.
4. Collaborates with other university departments, faculty, staff, students, and student organizations to plan and implement departmental programs, activities, initiatives, and events.
5. Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff, including student and graduate assistants.
6. Manages budget(s), monitors expenditures, and oversees payroll function for assigned programs.
7. Interprets and explains university policies and procedures related to the area of responsibility.
8. Collects and maintains data regarding general operation and qualitative evaluation of programming functions related to the area of responsibility.
9. Assesses programming needs and effectiveness relevant to identified student learning outcomes; develops, implements, and revises programming as appropriate.
10. Reviews current departmental policies and procedures and recommends changes.
11. Serves as liaison to university faculty/staff, student organizations, external organizations, and the general public.
12. Acts as the director in their absence or as assigned.
13. Receives and supervises the receipt of payments from students and others for departmentally sponsored activities.
Non-Essential Job Functions
1. May represent the department on various university committees.
2. Coordinates and assists with special projects when assigned.
3. Works evenings, nights, and weekends as required.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of student development theory, techniques, and research associated with ensuring the success of diverse student populations.
3. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
4. Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
5. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
6. Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
7. Ability to identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
8. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate programs.
9. Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
10. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students, parents, and family members.
11. Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students.
12. Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
13. Ability to train and supervise others.
14. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Physical Demands
Required Education
Master’s degree in student affairs administration, higher education administration or a related field is required.
Required Experience and Training
Two years of related experience is required. Experience with planning, marketing, implementing, and evaluating detail-oriented projects, programs, events, activities, and initiatives is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with parent/family programming is preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred.

Salary Information Salary Grade - 10, Hiring Salary - $48,272

Benefit and Retirement Eligibility
This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
