A Brief Overview
The Certified Educator Student or Candidate (CES/CEC) is a participant in a 2–5-year, formal training and education program, intended to complete their Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification process within 5 years, under the supervision of the Manager of Spiritual Care Education-CPE or ACPE Certified Educator.
With progressive autonomy as approved by the current ACPE Certified Educator, the CES/CEC participates in the supervision of up to six (6) Level I and Level II Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students per cohort.
The CES/CEC participates in at least one consortium with a frequency determined by the CES/CEC's ACPE Certified Educator focused on supporting CECs through the certification process within 5 years.
This job description covers Phase 1A of the certified educator program, where the CES/CEC demonstrates competence as a CPE Educator, moving developmentally from the National Admissions Interview, through Phase IA.

What you will do
+ What you will do under Phase 1A• Successful national ACPE Admissions Interview.• Meet regularly with one’s assigned Certified Educator for individual education/supervision and consultation.• Prepare an agenda for each session of individual education/supervision.• Observe, assist, and begin to take leadership in CPE education under the live and in-person presence of an ACPE Certified Educator. This would include participating in the teaching and administrative functions of the CPE program as assigned in the training curriculum including but not limited to:- coordinating admissions for Level I and Level II CPE units- reviewing applications and participating in interviews- preparing unit syllabus for Level I and Level II CPE- coordinating Level I and Level II CPE orientation.- coordinating and participating in course instruction/didactic training- following CPE course handbook and participating in yearly updates- scheduling CPE program activities- scheduling on-call coverage in coordination with Administrative Assistant- abiding by all SHC, CPE Program policies and procedures, and ACPE Standards- submitting all program material: curricula, didactic material, syllabus, assignments, unit calendar, and log sheets• Take part in the Pacific Region Community of Practice, including but not limited to:- doing preparatory reading- presenting certification-related material at each meeting,- participating fully in peer group. (May participate in an additional CEC group to serve learning needs (such as Virtual CES/CEC Group or Certified Educator Formation).• Write reflection reports at least biweekly. Write BDTIOLs [Behavior, Dynamics, Theory, Intervention, Outcome and Learning on one’s observation of Level I/II students.• Write self-evaluations every six months.• Create an ACPE certification portfolio and stores all certification related process notes and materials there. Grants access to one’s portfolio to one’s CPE Educators.• Attend area ACPE meetings, CPE Day, ACPE national meeting, and other conferences addressing the learning needs of the CES/CEC, as calendar and budget permit.• Provide professional spiritual care to patients of all ages, family members and hospital staff.• Respond to referrals and rounds on assigned patient units.• Participate in triage rotations and is available on short notice for emergencies.• Provide rituals and sacramental care as appropriate and in accordance with departmental and denominational policies.• Share in planning and leadership of regular services as applicable.• Participate in special services offered through Spiritual Care Services in collaboration with team members and hospital staff.• Consult with other health care professionals to enhance patient care.• Chart visits in the medical record and in departmental logs in an accurate and timely manner (within the scheduled work shift).• Provide educational in-services, seminars, and programs for staff as appropriate.• Work to increase the visibility and quality of Spiritual Care Services within the hospital community.• Cooperate with other departments in ministry and participates in the Spiritual Care department’s intra- and inter-hospital relationships.• Function as a member of the Spiritual Care team by participating in staff activities, meetings, and maintaining close working relationships with all members of the department.• Perform other duties as required, assigned, or negotiated with the Manager of Spiritual Care Education- CPE and/or Director of Spiritual Care Services.• Progressively meet all Certified Educator competencies of Phase 1A.
Education Qualifications
+ Completion of a Master’s Degree, preferably in Theology/ Divinity from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and/or the Association for Theological Schools required.
+ Four or more of Level 1 & 2 ACPE CPE units required.
+ Enrolled within the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) certification process required.
+ Admission to the SHC Supervisory CPE program to pursue Certified Educator CPE required.
Experience Qualifications
+ Three years of related experience as a Chaplain, following the completion of 4 units of CPE required.
+ Support for professional spiritual care formation by one’s spiritual/religious/philosophical community required.
+ Student membership in ACPE (Association for Clinical Pastoral Education) preferred.

Licenses and Certifications
+ Board Certified Chaplain from a certifying body Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or Spiritual Care Association (SCA) required
+ Clinical Pastoral Educator (CPE) Certification required within 5 years of hire in this position

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $42.25 - $42.25 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
