    Project Designer/Manager / District Five / District Maintenance / Structures & Facilities

     

    This position will help further the Department’s mission to provide a safe transportation system for the citizens of Florida through managing projects that will maintain and rehabilitate the bridges of District Five while also helping to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods and services across the District by maintaining the Bridge Load Rating inventory for all District 5 bridges.

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    Serves as a coordinator for bridge maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation projects. Performs project management including but not limited to research, documentation, field investigations, estimate preparations, scope development, plans review, project meeting coordination, and construction support.

     

    Performs and reviews load rating calculations, structural analysis, and special structural review requests.

     

    Conducts inspection report reviews to check the applicability of the Load Rating to current bridge conditions.

     

    Assists with contract management activities including negotiating staff-hour estimates for task work orders (TWO) on the Miscellaneous Design Consultant contracts and providing advisory support for consultant evaluation and selection on miscellaneous design and inspection contracts.

     

    Provide plan reviews on behalf of the Structures Maintenance office for other bridge related projects. Attend pre-construction conferences, progress, partnering, and design team meetings as required. Review shop drawings. Provide construction support on structure related issues.

     

    Assists in the design and preparation of contract documents for in-house structures repair or rehabilitation projects.

    The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of:

    + Civil/structural engineering.

    + The traffic control manual and the uniform standards for highway and streets.

    Skills in:

    + Supervision and management of consultant contracts for design/rehabilitation of bridges.

    + Rate negotiations and man-hour estimates for consultant work efforts.

    + Bridge specifications and roadway standards.

    + Record keeping.

    + Scheduling a project from beginning of preliminary engineering to completion of construction.

    + Oral communication and in the preparation of written documents.

    Ability to:

    + Correctly use English grammar and punctuation.

    Other Job-Related Requirements:

    + Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + 4 years of experience in bridge inspection, bridge repair, bridge or highway construction, and/or bridge or highway design.

    + A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering can substitute for the required years of experience.
