Summary: As a member of the Martin’s Family, the Vehicle Maintenance Manager directs and coordinates activities of workers engaged in maintenance and repair of company fleet vehicles by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
+ Develops departmental budget and continually monitors department spending to ensure expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
+ Reviews and approves PO requests as necessary and communicates the status of purchase orders on a timely basis.
+ Analyzes department expenditures to develop plans, policies, and budgets to increase profits and meet established quality and productivity goals.
+ Researches, evaluates and audits suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities as well as the supplier's reputation and history.
+ Confers with department heads to arrange inspections, services, and repairs on company vehicles.
+ Assigns and directs activities of service and repair personnel; and follows up on repairs being made.
+ Contracts for repair services not performed in shop. Evaluates and monitors contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Re-negotiates contracts with necessary changes on a regular basis.
+ Investigates and evaluates cause and extent of damage to vehicles involved in accidents. Reports investigation results to management.
+ Determines requirements, authorizes and arranges for purchase of supplies, tools, and equipment.
+ Negotiates with vendors to purchase automotive equipment, materials, and supplies and monitor contract fulfillment.
+ Directs recording of expenses and analyzes purchase and repair costs to control expenditures.
+ Analyzes costs of maintaining vehicle to determine when vehicle replacement is most cost effective.
+ Consults with management of operating and servicing divisions regarding vehicle replacement needs.
+ Establishes policies and standards for fleet vehicles with regard to inspections, maintenance, and scheduled repairs.
+ Oversees and interprets daily operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations.
+ Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending safety meetings, and meeting individually with staff members.
+ Evaluates and presents issues and suggestions for improving improvements to computer systems to the MIS department.
+ Oversees and interprets government regulations, safety regulations, and company policies and procedures for workers.
+ Develops job materials list.
+ Maintains working knowledge of government and transportation industry standards.
+ Identifies training needs to maintain staff knowledge of current operating equipment and directs additional training when needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of company fleet maintenance and repair units. Included is the supervision of one subordinate supervisor, who supervises employees responsible for maintenance and repair of company vehicles. This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education and/or Experience:
+ High School Diploma or GED;
+ Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from four year College or university;
+ Five to ten years’ related experience; or
+ Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills:
+ Microsoft Word software and Microsoft Excel software.
+ Knowledge of Oracle EAM system, Oracle Purchasing and/or Oracle Inventory.
