The Islamic Center at NYU (ICNYU) is seeking an Assistant Chaplain to provide support and guidance for the IC community and serve as a full team member of the IC staff in promoting understanding, diversity, and community through interfaith/multi-faith programs and engagement. This role provides broad support to the Executive Director including leading the IC in their absence and operational objectives. This is a full-time, at-will position on an open-ended term, subject to program priorities, exemplary performance and availability of funds. Key Responsibilities
Research/Data Analysis
+ Assist student's growth and flourish within the Muslim faith while living and learning in a secular and multicultural campus environment and provide analysis for trends and themes on a monthly basis to IC Senior Leadership in order to help develop programs, infographics and other resources
+ Build resources for students who are practitioners or interested in learning more about the Islamic faith and inventory resources provided by other campus communities and similar faith-based communities
+ Assist in demographic analysis of attendees to programs conducted
+ Assist in research of issues facing college Muslim students and develop papers, podcasts, multimedia, workshops relevant to findings
Administrative/Operational
+ Preside over or arrange for the religious life and practices of the Muslim student community and the wider campus; provide pastoral care and guidance, create community building opportunities and instruction on topics related to faith and spirituality experiences
+ Plan and help lead holiday services, spiritual pilgrimages, and other major events the celebration of Muslim holidays, including but not limited to Ramadan and Eid
+ Provide advisement to Muslim student groups on campus
+ Plan and participate in interfaith programming and activities on campus
+ Conduct regulars programs, study circles, halaqas for the ICNYU community and help manage Jummah, weekly halaqa programs, weekend seminars, and other religious / learning programming
+ Great interpersonal skills and experience supporting and working within a team environment
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills
+ Strong time management and organizational skills, with an ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment and a proven ability to juggle multiple projects and tasks at the same time
+ Goal-oriented: ability to stay focused on creating winning results
+ Excellent communications skills and process; procedure oriented
+ Knowledge, familiarity of, and experience working with diverse Muslim communities
+ Bachelor’s degree in religion, Islamic studies, divinity, or the equivalent - Master’s Degree preferred
+ Pastoral care training/experience
+ Evidence of professional preparation for chaplaincy and administrative/advisory experience for the support of student community engagement
+ Familiarity with a diverse higher education environment and experience working with the spiritual and emotional developmental issues of young adults
+ Demonstrated interfaith work and spiritual care that respects diversity
+ Demonstrated aptitude for dealing with confidential and sensitive issues with significant experience in campus religious life
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the compensation is $75,000 - $80,000.
