A Typical Day
As a Sr Database Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of Pennymac's critical database systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including software developers, business analysts, and operations, to ensure our data infrastructure is efficient, secure, and scalable. You will leverage your deep expertise in database technologies to optimize performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement best practices for data management within a mortgage lending environment.
The Sr Database Engineer will:
+ Design, develop, and implement database solutions that support our mortgage lending applications and business processes
+ Create and maintain database schemas, tables, stored procedures, and triggers
+ Ensure data integrity, security, and performance
+ Monitor database performance and identify bottlenecks. Develop and implement strategies for query optimization, indexing, and database tuning
+ Proactively address performance issues and ensure optimal database efficiency
+ Design and implement data integration processes, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and data warehousing solutions
+ Manage data migration projects and ensure data integrity
+ Develop and maintain data pipelines for seamless data flow
+ Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and auditing
+ Diagnose and resolve complex database issues in a timely manner
+ Provide technical support and guidance to development and operations teams
+ Develop and maintain comprehensive database documentation, including data dictionaries, schema definitions, and design specifications
+ Establish and enforce database standards and best practices
+ Contribute to the development of data governance policies
+ Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
What You’ll Bring
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
+ 5+ years of experience in database administration and development, preferably in a mortgage lending or financial services environment
+ Experience with cloud-based database solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus
+ Deep expertise in relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL
+ Experience with ETL tools and data integration technologies
+ Strong understanding of data security and compliance requirements
+ Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills
+ Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
+ Familiarity with Agile development methodologies

Compensation: Individual salary may vary based on multiple factors including specific role, geographic location / market data, and skills and experience as defined below:
+ Lower in range - Building skills and experience in the role
+ Mid-range - Experience and skills align with proficiency in the role
+ Higher in range - Experience and skills add value above typical requirements of the role
Some roles may be eligible for performance-based compensation and/or stock-based incentives awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.

$75,000 - $130,000
