About the role
Responsible for evolving and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company’s philanthropic programs including its private foundation, the volunteer program, and the associate giving campaign. Responsibilities include developing operational plans, managing grantmaking activities, running an employee annual giving campaign, planning and executing volunteer events, and cultivating donor relationships. Ensures the foundation effectively achieves its mission by allocating funds to impactful organizations that align with Trustmark’s mission, all while working closely with the Trustees to make informed decisions regarding grant distribution and overall organizational strategy.
Key Accountabilities:
Foundation Operational Planning:
+ Collaborates with the foundation’s Chair and Trustees to develop and implement the foundation's strategic plan. Establishes clear goals and priorities.
+ Identifies emerging needs in the community and aligns the foundation's grantmaking strategy accordingly.
+ Maintains strong partnership with the communications department to ensure communication strategies and tactics are aligned with plans and within budget.
Foundation Grantmaking:
+ Develop a formal application process.
+ Transforms current giving programs by applying best practices.
+ Evaluates grant proposals from potential recipients, analyzes their needs and aligns with the foundation's goals.
+ Conducts site visits to assess potential grantees and their programs.
+ Recommends grant awards to the Trustees based on thorough evaluation and due diligence.
+ Monitors the progress of funded projects and ensures grantees meet performance metrics.
Charitable Organization Relations:
+ Identifies and cultivates relationships with charitable organizations.
+ Manages grantee portfolio and provides regular updates on grantmaking activities and impact.
Financial Management & Foundation Board Support:
+ Oversees the foundation's budget, ensuring responsible allocation of funds across grantmaking initiatives.
+ Prepares financial reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
+ Provides administrative support to the Board of Directors, including preparing meeting agendas, materials, and minutes.
+ Communicates key information and updates to the Board regarding foundation operations and grantmaking activities.
Annual Giving Campaign:
+ Lead and coordinate a committee of associate volunteers to plan and implement the annual campaign
+ Work with partner organizations for campaign support and processing donations
+ Use project management skills to aid in the coordination of all campaign communications and events.
+ Collaborate with people from all areas and locations of the company
Associate Volunteer Program:
+ Lead and coordinate a committee of associate volunteers to facilitate and increase associate volunteering
+ Promote and analyze paid Volunteer Time Offer to determine impact
+ Coordinate and execute company-wide volunteer events including annual Community Week
+ Other duties as needed/assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree
+ A minimum of four years of experience in fundraising or grantmaking work, including at least two years specializing in foundation or donor relationship management
+ Understanding of non-profit principles and grantmaking practices
+ Highly organized and planful with a proven ability to multi-task and operate both collaboratively and independently
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with grantees, Trustees, and associate volunteers
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
+ Solid analytical skills to evaluate grant proposals and measure program impact
+ Experience planning associate volunteer and campaign events
+ Understanding of philanthropic and volunteer best practices and trends
+ Demonstrated skills and experience in managing foundation operations
Preferred Requirements:
+ Advanced degree in philanthropy, public policy, or related field
+ Knowledge of the insurance industry and its role in corporate philanthropy
+ Familiarity with applicable systems such as Charitay Navigator or similar
The compensation range for this role is (based on the corporate location in Lake Forest, Illinois):
$90,107.00 - $150,178.00 per year
The final salary offer will be determined based on factors such as location, qualifications, experience, skill set, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus. We understand that compensation is an important factor when considering a new opportunity, and we strive to provide a competitive salary within the market.
