Job Description
The Campaign Finance Board is a nonpartisan, independent city agency that empowers New Yorkers to have a greater impact on their elections. Our mission is to make local democracy more open, transparent, and equitable by removing barriers to participation.
We make it easier for New Yorkers to vote, meaningfully support candidates for city office, and run for office themselves. NYC Votes, our voter engagement initiative, meets people where they are to share trustworthy election information and help New Yorkers make a plan to vote. We publish the citywide Voter Guide, which delivers information about candidates directly to voters’ doors. Our public matching funds program ensures small contributions can make a big difference, allowing regular people to run for office by relying on the support of other regular people, not just wealthy donors and special interests. And we lift the veil on how candidates raise and spend money, increasing transparency and accountability in local government.
We believe that when every New Yorker is empowered to participate meaningfully in elections, candidates will better reflect the communities they serve, elected leaders will be more accountable to the public, and New Yorkers will have a democracy they can truly trust.
THE DIVISION/UNIT
The Public Affairs division promotes the agency’s key role in equipping all candidates and voters to power a fairer and more open democracy in New York City. We engage New Yorkers, inform them about elections, and boost their civic participation in the democratic process. Within Public Affairs, the Partnerships and Outreach unit works to build partnerships across the city to disseminate voting information, deliver accessible voter education, and conduct direct to voter outreach. The intention of this team’s work is to create pathways for all New Yorkers to gain trustworthy and accessible information and education around voting and democracy. Only then can we authentically increase civic participation and mobilize our communities beyond just voting.
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Neighborhoods Team, which is focused on building trusting relationships with community partners and delivering in-language voter education to voters that speak a language other than English (LOTE) in low voter turnout neighborhoods. The Neighborhoods Team works with community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, libraries, businesses, local groups, and other community partners to disseminate key election information and offer educational workshops covering topics such as Why Vote, How to Vote, Voting Rights, Voter Protections, and more.
The Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting a growing team of neighborhood-based Coordinators to execute partnership building and education delivery across 13 languages. The Manager will oversee the unique strategies for engagement in each of our priority geographies and support Coordinators in attaining the resources required to meet the specific needs of each community. The Manager will work closely with the Associate Director to refine strategy, manage budget, measure impact, and navigate internal collaborations to support the Neighborhoods Team. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for setting the direction of our curriculum, training, and development, ensuring that the content is accurate, accessible, and relevant to immigrant voters.
Given these responsibilities, we are looking for someone with a high level of leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. This role will require managing multiple staff and addressing their unique needs, learning the priorities of multiple diverse communities, and navigating many cross-team projects and collaborations. The success of this work relies heavily on interpersonal skills, which is why we are looking for someone with demonstrated discernment, empathy, awareness, and self-accountability. Beyond the hard skills, the ability to detach from outcomes, hold space for others, and facilitate a working environment where staff can reach their potential is key to this role.
We seek to work with someone passionate about making the voting process inclusive for those most marginalized in our society. Ideally, this candidate is aware or interested in deepening their understanding of how racism, ableism, classism or other oppressions show up in the voting process.
We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger teams. We strongly encourage people of color/the global majority, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, and people with other marginalized identities to apply. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Relationship Building Strategy and Management:
- Support team in identifying partnership strategies aligned with strategic goals

- Set the direction and oversee the development of educational content and curriculum
- Deliver presentations, workshops, and training to partner organizations and their communities, which may include various formats depending on trust, safety, engagement-level, language skills, and other aspects of the audience

- Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and innovation
- Hire and manage FTEs to support execution of the Neighborhoods strategy
- Conduct regular team meetings to review progress, address challenges, and celebrate achievements
- Address interpersonal or operational conflicts within the team professionally and constructively
