JOB SUMMARY
The EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Training Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing training programs for EMS personnel. Working under the direction of the EMS Director, this role ensures that all team members meet compliance requirements, maintain certifications, and are equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality pre-hospital care. The EMS Training Coordinator acts as a liaison between Island County Medical Program Director, EMS director, and EMS staff, promoting continuous education and professional development.
This role is essential to maintaining the quality, compliance, and preparedness of the EMS team, ensuring they are equipped to save lives and serve the community effectively.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:
+ + Design, schedule, and coordinate EMS training programs, including initial certification, recertification, and continuing education.
+ Develop and implement training curricula aligned with state and national EMS standards.
+ Oversee and coordinate Field Training Coordinator program. Provide skills training, field training, feedback and direction as needed.
+ Develop new hire training curriculum.
+ Act as QA on runs, provide feedback and identify need for additional training.
+ Coordination of training with all EMS departments within Island County, including local fire departments.
+ Coordination with WhidbeyHealth hospital training department to deliver in-hospital training on applicable emergency preparedness.
+ Conduct and participate in hospital & clinic required drills to be compliant with DOH & DNV.
+ Serve as the primary instructor or facilitator for EMS training sessions.
+ Coordinate with external instructors, subject matter experts, and training providers as needed.
+ Ensure the qualifications and medical certification of all WhidbeyHealth EMS personnel satisfies the appropriate certification standards as defined under Washington State Statute.
+ Monitor changes in EMS regulations and adjust training programs accordingly.
+ Assess the effectiveness of training programs through participant feedback, testing, and performance evaluations.
+ Conduct skills assessments and oversee practical simulations.
+ Review EMR, and employee performance during 911 calls, and provide feedback.
+ Collect, analyze, and report operational data and statistics to include preparing and presenting narrative and statistical reports.
+ Establish comprehensive quality control programs that satisfy or exceed local, regional, state and national industry standards.
+ Review emergency medical care field incident reports for acceptable operational standards.
+ Maintain accurate training records, certification documents, and attendance logs.
+ Prepare reports on training activities and outcomes for leadership review.
+ Manage training materials, equipment, and technology to ensure readiness for sessions.
+ Research and recommend new training tools and methods to enhance learning.
+ Act as a liaison between EMS leadership, regulatory agencies, and training partners.
+ Communicate training schedules, updates, and opportunities to EMS staff.
+ Make recommendations as needed within training scope to EMS Leadership and the District.
+ Become an active participant in local, regional, and state organizations.
+ Serve as a member of various employee and volunteer committees.
+ Coordinate with the WhidbeyHealth FTCs to implement training programs that provide for initial certification and continued education.
+ Monitor field operations as necessary to include riding on field units as a critical observer of the ALS and BLS levels of care.
+ Coordinate the delivery of ALS with other EMS providers who may contract for ALS services; law enforcement agencies, health care agencies and institutions, and related state or federal agencies through a variety of liaison and public information activities.
+ Represents WhidbeyHealth EMS at a variety of community meetings concerned with pre-hospital and emergency medical care.
+ Attend seminars, conferences, and other educational opportunities to maintain current knowledge of emergency medical service administrative and field operations.
+ Procure additional funding through outside agencies and grants.
+ Perform the duties of the Lead Paramedic as needed.
+ Respond to 911 calls as needed.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of Paramedic Certification Program
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Training and Experience
Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment.
Minimum 5 years of experience as a paramedic in WhidbeyHealth EMS system.
Minimum 5 years of training experience in EMS setting.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Washington State DOH Paramedic License
Valid Washington State Driver’s License
Must be insurable by Hospital Insurance carrier, as an emergency vehicle operator
Instructor I, II and ESE Endorsement
ACLS, BLS and PALS Certification required at hire
Skills and Competencies:
+ Strong knowledge of EMS protocols, standards, and best practices.
+ Considerable knowledge of local, regional, state and national pre-hospital advanced life support emergency medical care principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.
+ Have skill in the operation of all associated tools and equipment.
+ Must have considerable knowledge of applicable laws, administrative codes, and WhidbeyHealth EMS policies and procedures.
+ Thorough knowledge of current EMS needs of the county.
+ Effective communication and public speaking skills.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other employees, hospital departments, local fire departments, and community members.
+ Ability to develop and deliver engaging and interactive training sessions.
+ Proficiency with training technologies, including e-learning platforms and simulation equipment.
+ Strong organizational and time management skills.
+ Strong ability to give and receive written instructions and communications.
+ Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and then making appropriate decisions.
+ Ability to work independently, without direct supervision and has self-motivation skills.
+ Ability to adapt to changing regulations and training needs.

Wage Range: $131,500 - $171,000 Annually
