We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Product Testing Technician to join our Appliance, HVAC, and Lighting (AHL) laboratory team in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC. In this onsite role, you’ll play a critical part in setting up, executing, and documenting performance tests on electrical and mechanical products for our clients. This position is ideal for candidates with strong technical aptitude (electrical and/or mechanical), a passion for product testing, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
This is a full-time onsite position (Monday to Friday)
+ Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment to conduct product performance and safety testing.
+ Interpret and work from technical documents such as schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and datasheets.
+ Follow established test procedures and adjust setups as needed, based on engineering instructions.
+ Record, evaluate, and summarize test data and operational results in detailed technical reports.
+ Communicate directly with customers during test execution to clarify technical requirements and expectations.
+ Build or modify test setups using hand and power tools, based on project requirements.
+ Identify and escalate issues in test performance, suggesting improvements or adjustments when necessary.
+ Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending new tools, procedures, or automation ideas.
+ Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to troubleshoot, plan, and execute complex test scenarios.
+ Operate with minimal supervision, managing multiple test assignments and shifting priorities.
+ High School Diploma or Technical Trade Certification required; Associate Degree in a technical field preferred.
+ 2–3 years of hands-on experience in product testing, technical support, quality control, or similar field.
+ Strong electrical and/or mechanical aptitude is required — including comfort using tools and test instruments.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with clients and technical teams.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced lab environment.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to generate and format reports.
+ Interest or experience in basic automation or data acquisition tools is a plus.
+ Team-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized.
What you’ll experience working at UL:
+ Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $40,000 and $56,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
