Summary This Industrial Equipment Mechanic performs installations, repairs, overhauling, and maintenance of various types of nonproduction industrial plant machinery, equipment, and systems that have complex interrelationships among components. Responsibilities Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Performs installs, repairs, overhauls, alignments, modifications, relocation, troubleshoots and maintains various types of non-production industrial plant machinery, and systems that have complex interrelationships among components. Performs preventative maintenance services, including conducting periodic preventative and recurring inspections. Uses and maintains machine tools, such as small lathes, milling machines, drill presses, precision grinders and other portable machines. Lays-out, disassembles, installs, aligns, repairs, overhauls and maintains various types of conveyors, mover motors, drive belts, picker assembles supporting multiple, automated unit of use dispensing equipment. Utilizes amp meters, volt/ohm meters to troubleshoot electrical problems in a wide array of industrial and facility systems such as batteries, motor controls, refrigerator/freezers, power supplies, powered logic controllers and wiring systems. Utilizes are welders, torches, machine tools, micrometers, power drills, saws and grinders to accurately measure and fabricate braces, supports or adjustable workstations. Examines and troubleshoots in order to determine the extent of required complex repairs and materials or parts needed; and to estimate the time required to complete repairs. Uses machine tools for onsite milling, grinding, boring, facing, and drilling, and the use of various other portable machine tools to accomplish repairs. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP) Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Handles objects weighing 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds and over for considerable distances. Pushes, pulls, reaches, walks, stands, cramped positions over and under machinery of all types for sustained periods of time. Usually performs work in inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven oily and slippery. He/She is frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noises and vibration from machines. Occasionally he/she climbs and works from ladders and staging resulting in exposure to the possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
