Position Title: General Mechanic Foreman
Salary Range: Regionally Competitive
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Immediate Supervisor: Director Buildings and Grounds
Job Summary: The General Mechanic Foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the maintenance team, including scheduling, assigning, and inspecting work performed by skilled and semi-skilled maintenance staff. This role ensures the efficient repair, maintenance, and operation of mechanical systems, structures, and equipment across district facilities. The General Mechanic Foreman provides hands-on expertise, leadership, and guidance to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee the work order system for the general mechanic department, ensuring proper filing and documentation.
+ Assure that all forms in the general mechanic department are properly filed.
+ Develop and submit specifications for general mechanic materials, supplies, tools, special projects, and emergency needs.
+ Supervise, assign, and review the work of general mechanics and other maintenance personnel.
+ Plan and coordinate repair and preventive maintenance tasks on HV AC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other mechanical systems.
+ Maintain accurate records of labor, materials, and work performed.
+ Evaluate and distribute submitted work orders on a daily basis in coordination with the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes and safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
+ Conduct regular inspections to assess facility conditions and identify repair needs.
+ Participate in emergency response efforts including after-hours repairs or weather-related incidents.
+ Cover athletic events or building rentals as needed, including weekends.
+ Train and mentor maintenance staff on proper procedures, safety practices, and equipment use.
+ Support and participate in energy-saving initiatives and district sustainability goals.
+ Direct and control the daily development of the genreall mechanic and mechanic’s helpers.
+ Assure that general mechanical operations are performed in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
+ Direct the entire general mechanic staff in a manner that assures satisfactory performance levels.
Equipment & Fleet Management
+ Direct and control the specialized and heavy-duty equipment and vehicular fleet, ensuring proper maintenance and operation.
+ Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, and snow removal equipment.
+ Responsible for the tools and equipment assigned to the department.
+ Install and repair athletic equipment as required.
+ Install forms for sidewalks, drives, etc., with the ability to do finishing concrete work, repairing parking lots and floors as needed.
+ Laying sod, planting, trimming trees and shrubs, seeding, and fertilizing yards and fields.
+ Perform all repairs not completed by other trades and requested to be completed.
+ Read blueprints, specifications, and shop drawings to install equipment, playground materials, and other building items.
+ All other duties as assigned.
Work Order & Documentation Oversight

Collaboration & Communication
+ Collaborate with other maintenance staff and school administrators to prioritize and complete plumbing-related tasks.
+ Attend or present at professional meetings.
Travel Requirements: Frequent travel between schools and district buildings is required.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in general building maintenance and repair, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.
Desired Education and Training
+ Certification or licensure in one or more skilled trades preferred.
+ Training in OSHA compliance and facilities safety protocols.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands: Must be able to manage multiple priorities, make timely decisions, and respond effectively to emergency situations. Requires attention to detail, leadership ability, and clear communication skills.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform maintenance tasks for extended periods. Requires good manual dexterity and physical endurance.
Environmental Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors under varying weather conditions. Regular exposure to noise, dust, mechanical hazards, and cleaning or maintenance chemicals. May require evening or weekend hours as needed for emergencies or events.
