Job Summary and Qualifications

Collaborates with RN’s, obstetricians, CRNA’s and anesthesiologists to serve in support role in Labor and Delivery, including within the OR. Responsible for supplies, instrumentation and equipment needed for surgical cases. Proficient in surgical environment as surgical assistant passing instruments and assisting the physician during surgical cases. Has expertise with aseptic technique within the surgical/obstetrical setting. Transports patients between units in a safe manner using good body mechanics. Acknowledges consent in room with obstetrician/surgeon, anesthesia and other team members present and is instrumental in participating in the time out procedure, prior to surgery and in the OR. May access general supply storage areas where saline flushes and procedure trays are stored

What you will do in this role:

+ Demonstrates expertise in sterile environment passing surgical instruments in an organized manner noting any breaks in sterile technique in C-sections, tubal ligations, hysterectomies and vaginal delivery. Demonstrates aseptic technique and product knowledge in setting up sterile trays for all cases in delivery.

+ Demonstrates proficiency in the set-up for OR/delivery room/epidural prior to the patients’ arrival.

+ Maintains surgical work field to meet intra-operative needs.

+ Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment according to census or par level.

+ Assist with the transporting of patients and specimens in a safe and timely manner.

+ Demonstrates communication skills to all labor and delivery patients.

+ Performs surgical count and other quality control measures according to established policies and procedures.

+ Provides age-appropriate care to all patient populations for which staff member is responsible and trained for:Birth-1, Adult = 18-59 year, Youth=13-17 years

What qualifications you will need:

* Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.

* Certification in Surgical Technology.

* Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.

* 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred
