SUPV CODING AUDITOR & EDUCATOR

Job Summary
The Supervisor Coding Audit and Education is responsible for overseeing medical coding accuracy, compliance, and education initiatives within the Medical Group. This role supervises Coding Auditor & Educators and conducts coding audits, ensuring adherence to national standards, and educating both coders and healthcare providers or staff on best practices. Applies experience in medical coding, team leadership, compliance regulations, and education methodologies.
Core Job Responsibilities
+ Supervise and coordinate the daily work of the Coding Auditor & Educators. Relay work instructions, distribute assignments and monitor work for accuracy, quality and completeness.
+ Serves as a resource and role model and provide guidance, mentorship, and support on complex coding related questions.
+ Develop strategies to improve coding accuracy, efficiency, and workflow.
+ Responsible for team performance in auditing coding activities for accuracy, productivity and quality standards.
+ Oversee audits to ensure documentation compliance and accurate assignment of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes, and modifiers. Responsible for compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.
+ Work with billing, compliance and revenue cycle teams to ensure proper claims submission and resolve coding-related claim rejections and denials.
+ Keep current on changes in coding guidelines, payer rules, and healthcare regulations. Communicate information to appropriate stakeholders.
+ Assist in developing and maintaining policies and guidelines related to coding practices.
+ Develop and implement training programs for coders and healthcare providers.
+ Educate healthcare providers on proper documentation practices to improve coding accuracy and reimbursement.
+ Create educational materials.
+ Monitor the effectiveness of training programs through assessments and feedback to ensure continuous improvement by auditors, coders and providers/staff.
+ Promote effective teamwork throughout the department.
+ With the Manager and Human Resources guidance, make recommendations or decisions on employee hires, performance reviews, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. Resolve grievances and other staff problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner also in conjunction with HR. Prepare and approve work and PTO schedules.
+ Perform related duties as required.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
+ 2 years of experience as a medical coder, with at least 1 year in a coding audit or educator role.
+ In-depth knowledge of compliance standards, including HIPAA, HITECH, and Medicare/Medicaid regulations.
+ Strong proficiency in coding software, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and healthcare management tools including MS Office.
+ Strong analytical skills to assess coding accuracy, identify trends, and resolve complex coding and documentation issues.
+ Ability to deliver constructive feedback and lead, guide and motivate others.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and train diverse audiences.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
REQUIRED:
+ CPC (Certified Professional Coder), or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or equivalent certification through AAPC, AHIMA, or another nationally recognized credentialing body.
PREFERRED:
+ Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P), or additional specialty certifications (e.g., CPMA (Certified Professional Medical Auditor)
