Brief Position Overview
The Director of Student Wellness Facilities & Operations provides daily leadership and direct oversight for all Student Wellness facilities, including the new Student Wellness Center ( SWC ), a 165,000 square foot facility that opened in August 2024. The new facility enhances the integrated and holistic model of student health and wellbeing at MSU . Additional facilities include the Outdoor Recreation Center, North Dome, South Dome, Shroyer gymnasium, and Lambert field complex.
The Director will play an important part in the ongoing development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, and risk management and safety practices. This position will serve as the facility lead for all partners in the Student Wellness Center (Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and academic department of Health & Human Development). This position will maintain a collaborative partnership with MSU Facilities Management and other university stakeholders.

General Statement
The Student Wellness area is within Student Success at MSU Bozeman. Student Wellness provides support and services for student and community health and wellbeing at MSU and is comprised of three departments (Campus Recreation, Counseling and Psychological Services, and Student Health Services) as well as a core Student Wellness office that includes administration, health education and promotion programming staff, and shared service staff.
The Director of Student Wellness Facilities & Operations provides daily leadership and direct oversight of operations for all Student Wellness facilities. The Director will play an important part in the ongoing development and implementation of policies, standard operating procedures, and risk management and safety practices. This position will serve as the facility lead for all partners in the Student Wellness Center (Campus Recreation, Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and academic department of Health & Human Development) as well as maintain a collaborative partnership with MSU Facilities Management.
The Director will report directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Wellness and be a collaborative partner with the Student Wellness leadership team. This position will serve as the liaison for facility related issues for all partners in the Student Wellness Center. The position is responsible for supervising a full-time Scheduling and Operations Coordinator and a custodial team comprised of full-time classified and part-time student staff. The position will also work closely with maintenance and facility staff in Campus Recreation as well as maintenance trades within MSU Facilities Management.

Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
+ Collaborate with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation leadership teams to standardize all building standard operating procedures
+ Participate in annual and long-range budget planning of $2.4M annual building and facilities operating budget.
+ Assist with management of facility within the bounds of established budgets.
+ Work with the AVP to identify short- and long-term priorities to ensure appropriate maintenance and upkeep of facilities.
+ Serve as the primary liaison between Student Wellness and MSU Facilities Management, which includes Safety and Risk Management.
+ Work closely with the AVP to coordinate communications with the Student Wellness team regarding risk management, operating procedures, and facility updates.
Facility Management
+ Create infrastructure for and provide oversight of inventory processes, short- and long-range facility maintenance and capital improvement plans in conjunction with the AVP for Student Wellenss and the AVP for Facilities Management.
+ Oversee inventory, warranty work, replacement plans, and maintenance schedules for equipment. Facilities maintenance schedules are managed through MSU Facilities Management.
+ Manage, implement, and oversee Student Wellness Center enterprise custodial and laundry services and associated standard operating procedures.
+ Develop a strong and effective working relationship with MSU Facilities Management and coordinate maintenance work within the bounds of MSU collective bargaining agreements.
+ In collaboration with the AVP of Student Wellness, oversee facility use policies, space allocation processes, procedures, and guidelines for all user groups. Oversee and review rental fees, staffing systems and special events/rental services.
+ Serve as lead event coordinator for high profile events hosted in Student Wellness facilities including oversight and staffing of special events and reservations.
+ Oversight of all facility reservations, user agreements, contracts, and payments to include use of Fusion software database and associated rental processes. Assure alignment with MSU policy in all areas.
+ Develop, maintain, enforce and report policies and standards of safety and risk management.
+ Maintain a collaborative and participatory relationship with Montana State University Facilities Management and Auxiliary areas.
Staff Supervision
+ Recruit, hire, onboard, and supervise Student Wellness custodial staff.
+ Provide leadership, mentorship, and management to all assigned employees.
+ Create a work environment that fosters collaboration and encourages a growth mindset and aligns with Student Wellness core values.
Student Development
+ Assist with the oversight of all facility operations student employees.
+ Contribute to department and enterprise-wide common initiatives, i.e. student leadership training, on-boarding processes, staff education, connection and engagement.
Other duties as assigned including participation in university or departmental committees.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
+ Demonstrated professional experience working in facilities and operations management.
+ Demonstrated fiscal management abilities.
+ Interpersonal skills to develop an effective team.
+ Professional experience supervising and leading staff.
+ Demonstrated operational understanding of custodial and maintenance services.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
+ Master’s degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, Sports Management, or related field.
+ Professional experience in recreation management, facility operations and event management.
+ Professional experience with facility scheduling and related operational software such as Fusion.

+ Proficient knowledge of Fusion and project management tools such as Connect2, Trello, Teams or other productivity tracking methods.

+ Ability to take direction, contribute to team discussion and work independently with strong attention to detail.
+ Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with students, staff, and faculty from all levels of the university.
+ Eager to create and continually refine infrastructure, associated systems, strategies, and assets that contribute to the bold new vision for student health and wellbeing at MSU .
