Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Biller to join our team, reporting directly to the Revenue Cycle Manager. In this role, you will handle various billing functions in accordance with the organization’s established processes and policies. Responsibilities include managing charge processing for the clinic's services, supporting claims processors, providing backup coverage for the Billing Manager, and generating financial reports as requested by the CFO. As an integral part of our team-based care model, you will ensure timely and effective communication of critical information while maintaining accuracy and efficiency in all aspects of the billing cycle.
Key Responsibilities
Billing and Charge Processing:
+ Accurately code invoices, vouchers, expense reports, check requests, and other items for data entry in the electronic medical records (EMR) system (Allscripts).
+ Review and reconcile charges (“superbills”) for accuracy prior to entry and billing.
+ Process claims within 48 hours of patient visits and review system entries for errors before submission.
+ Perform weekly claims transmissions and re-submit denials for payment resolution.
+ Post payments to corresponding accounts and assist with reconciling errors and omissions according to standard billing protocols.
Financial Reporting and Reconciliation:
+ Prepare batch reconciliation reports and month-end financial statements.
+ Assist with monthly status reports and closings.
+ Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies to ensure accounts are balanced accurately.
Patient Communications:
+ Respond professionally to patient inquiries via phone or email.
+ Research payment questions and offer support to patients regarding insurance and billing issues.
Other Key Functions:
+ Serve as a reliable backup to the Billing Manager.
+ Conduct special project-related tasks, including looking up CPT and ICD-10 codes for accurate documentation.
+ Produce and update daily and error reports for clinic and nurse managers as needed.
Requirements
Qualifications
+ Education: Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
+ Experience: At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in medical billing or claims processing. Experience with professional billing collection and private insurance (PPO) preferred.
+ Technical Proficiency: Knowledge of Allscripts or similar EMR systems, Microsoft Word, and Excel. A tech-savvy approach to billing processes is a plus.
+ Skills: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages accurately.
Preferred Skills/Certifications
+ Familiarity with coding standards such as CPT and ICD-10.
+ Certifications such as Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) are a plus.
