Description
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of a small but fast-growing wholesale business that operates under the umbrella of an international parent company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in international operations and wholesale distribution, coupled with a hands-on approach to financial management. This role entails preparing accurate financial statements, driving financial planning and analysis, optimizing margin performance, managing inventory processes, and balancing the complexities of a multi-channel business. The role will be based in Burbank, CA.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with U.S. GAAP and parent company reporting standards.
+ Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
+ Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, ensuring accurate financial accounts and records.
+ Ensure compliance with local, state, and international tax regulations, as applicable.
+ Lead external audits and work with auditors to resolve any questions or discrepancies.
+ Develop company budgets, forecasts, and strategic financial projections in collaboration with the management team.
+ Perform variance analysis and deliver actionable financial insights to drive profitability and operational efficiency.
+ Conduct margin and cost analysis—including product, channel, and customer profitability—using data to recommend business optimizations.
+ Report and align financial strategy with the international parent company, ensuring seamless communication and operational integration.
+ Maintain accurate and detailed inventory records, identifying and addressing discrepancies to mitigate stock loss or inefficiencies.
+ Optimize inventory turnover rates in wholesale distribution and across multi-channel operations (e.g., wholesale, e-commerce).
+ Analyze inventory costs, carrying costs, and cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) to enhance operational profitability.
+ Collaborate with the procurement and operations teams to align financial goals with inventory planning.
+ Manage financial intricacies of multi-channel wholesale distribution, including direct-to-business (B2B), online (e-commerce), and other sales models.
+ Develop and implement accounting and reporting processes tailored for multi-channel operations.
+ Collaborate with sales teams to ensure financial goals align with channel profitability metrics.
+ Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring compliance with internal controls and promoting professional growth.
+ Partner with cross-functional teams—including operations, procurement, and sales—to align financial insights with company objectives.
+ Serve as the primary liaison between the company's U.S. operations and the international parent company.
+ Identify process improvement opportunities and implement tools or technologies to streamline financial operations.
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred.
+ MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
+ 5+ years in a senior accounting or finance role, preferably in a wholesale or manufacturing/distribution environment.
+ Proven experience working with international companies and cross-border financial reporting.
+ Background in managing multi-channel operations and financial analysis for wholesale distribution.
+ Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and financial reporting tools; experience with [Insert specific tools if relevant, e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Sage, QuickBooks] is a plus.
+ Expertise in developing and implementing financial control frameworks.
+ Strong knowledge of inventory management and cost accounting.
+ Exceptional analytical capabilities with a focus on margins, costs, and profitability.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
