Duties Description Process claims• Review and process claims, perform database searches using information provided by claimants; identify and link additional claim properties; determine and request in writing (generate correspondence) required proof and documentation; and recommend payment according to agency rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures. Answer calls directed to the Office of Unclaimed Funds Communication Center• Answer calls from claimants, Reporting Organizations, and other interested parties such as finders, attorneys, etc.; answer questions related to claim status, expected processing timeframes, assist with claim form completion and required documentation; identify property for Process by Phone (PBP) eligibility. Assignment to this task will be on a fixed schedule (two days per week) and may require different work hours (ending as late as 5 PM) to fit with the needs of the Communication Center.Answer emails directed to the Office of Unclaimed Funds Communication Center• Read and interpret e-mails and attached correspondence; drafts responses, attach images to appropriate claims, request check status when necessary and complete change of address notifications.Assist in training and helping new OA1’s in performing their duties.• Assist in OUF’s training by reviewing work product (i.e.; letters) and their progress in processing claims; work with the UFE 1 on development and performance plans.

Non-Competitive promotion (NCP) qualifications: You must be a qualified employee of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higherNCP notes:If the number of interested candidates who meet the promotional qualifications is three or less, the agency; at its discretion, may nominate one or more of the candidates for a noncompetitive promotion without further examination under the provisions of Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law.
