Position Summary:
With minimum guidance in a team environment, uses independent judgment to determine quality and usability of complex parts using a wide variety of measurement and test equipment.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Responsibilities may include some or all the following:
+ Maintain accurate and up-to-date acceptance and rejection records and/or certifications systems as required by the applicable specifications.
+ Determine acceptance or rejection after inspection and/or calibration of parts, tools, instruments or x-ray film. Identify defective conditions and test failures and prepare all appropriate documentation and/or calibration history.
+ Conduct or direct the training of lower-level personnel and certified operators.
INSPECTION
+ Adapt and develop complex inspection set-ups to check sample parts, forgings and castings. Check tool and jig layouts.
+ Perform first article and envelope inspections, source inspections, and/or complex surface plate set-ups.
+ Interpret specifications, records, charts, manuals and other data to arrive at acceptance or rejection. Recommend changes to supervision. Use mathematics to convert blueprint dimension and tolerances. Work within the guidelines of drawings, schematics, blueprints, route sheets, travelers, quality directives, technical engineering specifications, customer's requirements and military standards.
+ Layout all component part characteristics onto rough or semi-machined castings, forgings and machine parts to maintain control of machining cycle during manufacturing.
+ Make own gaging set-ups on surface plate using block, parallels, clamps, sine plates and V-blocks to take readings with precision measuring instruments.
+ May be required to plan, initiate, and coordinate periodic fire testing of hose and fire sleeve for the division and outside distributors.
+ May be required to serve as the certified operator administrative support person.
+ Adapt inspection equipment to check standard, non-standard and special products.
+ Investigate cause of customer return failures. Perform inspections to applicable specifications within assembly, test and shipping departments. Assist customer/government source inspectors as necessary.
+ Perform inspection activities in other areas as assigned by supervisor or manager.
CALIBRATION
+ Perform calibration on complex multi-function electronic measuring and test equipment.
+ Maintains calibration records and issues gages to internal and external customers.
+ Set-up calibration test conditions having various circuit requirements interpreting calibration procedures, specifications, manufacturer's instructions, or related documents.
+ Document and evaluate historical data to determine calibration intervals.
+ Diagnose and calibrate newly acquired complex electronic equipment.
+ Inspects, tests and adjusts new and reworked tools, dies, gauges, jigs, and fixtures for conformance to specifications such as dimension, tolerance, and hardness.
+ Inspect tools in accordance with specifications with locating points, coordinated dimensions, and tooling holes that are at right angles, compound angles, or parallels.
+ Test units for fit of moving parts and mechanical functioning. Verifies accuracy of measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, height gauges, optical equipment, and electrical; and functional gauges using master gauges.
+ May use optical instruments to examine measuring instruments for wear, damage and defects, and adjusts inaccurate instruments.
+ Maintains records of defective parts and types. Determines salvageability of items.
+ Creates requisitions for purchase, service, or repair of tools, gauges and equipment.
+ Issues failure notices for calibration failures.
Secondary Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
+ Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments
+ Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly, foreign object damage (FOD) free work area. Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance.
+ Actively participates in lean/continuous initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work areas.

Qualifications (relevant experience, education and training):
+ Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 6-8 years related inspection experience or demonstrated ability to perform described responsibilities.
+ Able to implement and effectively apply lean/continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Able to effectively demonstrate team member competencies and participates in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development activities.
+ Must be able to pass required vision exam.
+ Able to interpret reports and use job specific software applications. Able to use employee self-service systems to access on-line information and use specialized automated systems (i.e. PMR, TORS, email)
+ Knowledge of applicable military standards or specifications.
+ Required experience in CMM operations, background in dimensioning and tolerancing per ANSI Y 14.5.
+ Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, customer's specifications and internal drawings and procedures. Able to interpret drawings and electronic schematics.
Typical Mental and Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently required to move about inside the plant to access tools, parts and materials. The team member must be able to remain in a stationary position about half the time. The team member is required to use test equipment to inspect parts. Must be able to detect and identify parts and tools and inspect work for defects and accuracy. Also expected of the team member is regular attendance, the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others. May be required to operate forklift. May be required to move parts or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for 30 feet.
