    The Connecticut Department of Correction (https://portal.ct.gov/DOC) (DOC) is seeking to fill a position for a highly motivated and experienced Psychologist to serve as a Supervising Psychologist 2 (Clinical) (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=6578FP&R1=&R3=) , at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution (https://portal.ct.gov/doc/facility/macdougall-walker-ci) in Suffield, CT.

    POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

    This position's schedule is 7:00AM-3:00PM, Monday-Friday.

     

    Supervising Psychologists within the correctional setting provide a range of clinical, administrative and supervisory functions to persons in custody. The incumbent in this position will have the opportunity to work within a clinically rich setting, with opportunities to provide a mix of clinical, supervisory and administrative functions, including scheduling, staffing, clinical supervision, clinical team leadership, and a range of clinical functions including psychological testing, individual & group psychotherapy and behavior management as well as providing clinical consultative services within the facility for complex cases. Additional opportunities to engage in collaborative care planning with external support services and research driven programming, are also encouraged and available.

     

    Supervising psychologists at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution work within a dynamic, fast-paced, multidisciplinary team comprised of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and APRNs, as well as medical personnel and custody staff, all sharing the common goal of providing high quality, service oriented care to incarcerated men.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In state facilities this class is accountable for supervising a comprehensive psychology or multidisciplinary clinical program with its own services and staff.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    + Supervises a comprehensive psychology or multidisciplinary clinical program;

    + Provides clinical consultation on complex cases;

    + Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff;

    + Provides staff training and assistance;

    + Conducts performance evaluations;

    + Determines priorities and plans program work;

    + Establishes and maintains program procedures;

    + Develops or make recommendations on development of policies and standards;

    + Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding program policies and procedures;

    + Prepares reports and correspondence;

    + Addresses professional and lay groups;

    + May design, implement and/or direct psychological research programs;

    + May direct an intern training program including the selection of candidates and organization of an educational plan;

    + May act as the assistant to the Director of Psychological Services;

    + May represent Director of Psychological Services in their absence;

    + Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    + Considerable knowledge of

    + abnormal and clinical psychology and other psychological disciplines;

    + sources, uses, administration, and interpretation of a wide variety of psychological tests;

    + psychological research design, data analysis and application of results;

    + Knowledge of various clinical services;

    + Considerable

    + interpersonal skills;

    + oral and written communication skills;

    + Considerable ability to

    + make diagnoses, develop treatment plans and conduct psychotherapy;

    + interface clinical programs with multidiscipline approaches;

    + develop and direct training programs;

    + teach;

    + Supervisory ability.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    A Doctorate degree in clinical or counseling psychology and three (3) years of post-doctoral experience as a licensed clinical psychologist.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience with forensic or justice involved clients;

    + Experience working within a bargaining unit workplace;

    + Experience Supervising Psychologists and/or Licensed Mental Health Professionals.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license to practice psychology in Connecticut. Any person employed by the State of Connecticut prior to July 1, 1985 with a title in the psychology series of the classified service shall be exempt from the above licensure requirements pursuant to Public Act 613, Section 119 (c). For certain positions, the appointing authority may require State licensure.

    + Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain eligibility for participation in federal health care programs as defined in 42 U.S. § 1320a-7b(f).

    + Incumbents in this class may be required to be fluent in a foreign language or proficient in the use of the American Sign Language.

    + Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
