*The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), Institute of Human Virology (IHV) THRIVE program*is our outpatient Infectious Disease practice located at University of Maryland Midtown Campus. THRIVE is seeking an*Insurance Program Specialist*to coordinate all aspects of insurance for our HIV and HIV prevention programs. We are looking to make impactful differences in the lives of our patients and communities. This position will support both patients and staff by ensuring that patients are able to obtain and maintain the health insurance for which they qualify. This person will work alongside a team of social workers and other psychosocial support services and act as the primary point of contact for insurance matters at THRIVE. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland. * *Primary Duties:* * Assist in the management of the Insurance Program at THRIVE. Serve as a point of contact for pharmacy billing and insurance issues. Think critically about all aspects of the health program to resolve questions and make decisions related to the program. * Develop and maintain system for patients’ overall health insurance recertification. Assist patients with applying for prescription assistance programs and complicated insurance navigation. * Organize operations for uninsured patient billing relating to labs and subspecialty appointments. * Organize health program activities that will increase health literacy among patients regarding their health insurance benefits. Liaise with the social work team, community, healthcare agencies on a regular basis. * Develop and provide training to multidisciplinary staff. * Contribute to assignments and projects that require significant evaluation, originality, and ingenuity. * Make recommendations relating to program financial statements and budgets. * Provide routine and non-routine technical advice, problem solving assistance, and answer questions. Interpret program goals and policies and provide administrative support to the program team. Provide solutions to issues and judgment outside of pre-established guidelines or processes. * Prepare or assist in preparation of funding grant proposal and/or funding continuation from outside sponsors for program. * Perform other duties having a significant impact on the overall goals of program. *Education:*Bachelor’s degree in health-related field. *Experience:*Two (2) years of experience in a healthcare field. Experience in program planning, coordination, or training is required.
