    Job Description:

    Responsible for all construction and maintenance work assigned in accordance with specifications or as indicated by Tri-State engineering staff. Performs, supervises, and trains others in all types of construction and maintenance on transmission conductors, structures, and equipment, both energized and de‑energized. Carries out work order assignments, interprets prints, and prepares daily time sheets, material tickets, and field and inspection reports as required. Maintains a first-aid card and the ability to perform pole-top resuscitation and remove an injured worker from a structure, if necessary.

    Note:

    There is one position available, and the position will be filled at one of six job grade levels: Lineman Trainee, job grade, T1; Lineman I, job grade T2; Lineman II, job grade T3; Lineman III, job grade T4; Lineman IV, job grade T5; or Journey Level Lineman, job grade T6. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.

    Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.

    Responsibilities:

    + Performs, supervises, and trains others in all types of construction and maintenance on transmission conductors, structures, and equipment, both energized and de‑energized.

    + Carries out work order assignments, interprets prints, and prepares daily time sheets, material tickets, and field and inspection reports as required.

    + Maintains a first‑aid card and the ability to perform pole‑top resuscitation and remove an injured worker from a structure, if necessary.

    + Responsible for observance of safety rules by all co‑workers.

    + Maintains a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), as required for the operation of DOT regulated vehicles, and operates automotive equipment.

    + Sets up safe clearance with dispatchers and operating personnel.

    + Leads and directs the work of the crew in the absence of the Line Foreman or Senior Lineman involving planning and laying out specific work assignments, and routing and execution of the jobs assigned.

    + Responsible for appraising condition of the line, equipment and right‑of‑way while performing regular duties and for advising the Line Foreman of any defects or condition that needs attention.

    + Responsible for having all equipment maintained in a ready‑working condition.

    + Responsible for prompt restoration of service during outage.

    + Do any work of equal or lessor skill within the capabilities of the individual to meet emergencies or other operating needs.

    + Adhere to and demonstrate compliance with appropriate electric utility industry regulatory requirements. Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards and best practices applicable to the functional area including, but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, Environmental, Employment Law, NERC Reliability Standards and Safety. Must be familiar with, and comply with, all aspects of Corporate Policy C-54, Compliance.

    + Because Tri-State is an electric utility with continuous service obligations to its customers, regular, reliable, and predictable performance of the essential functions and responsibilities is an essential function of the job.

    + Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.

    Qualifications:

    Education and Training

    + Associates degree in electric utility line work or related discipline, or acceptable Line School certificate of completion, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:

    + Have good health and physical ability adequate for strenuous work.

    + Must be able to climb wooden and steel structures up to 300 feet.

    + Have thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of electrical transmission lines in the area.

    + Possess a considerable degree of skill to perform work by following standard method of procedure.

    + Be able to exercise judgment in making decisions and, when assigned, to direct a group of workers.

    Experience:

    + Four years of appropriate experience, including at least one year as Lineman IV at Tri-State (or have acceptable equivalent experience).

    + Those with less experience will be hired at the Lineman Trainee, I, II, III, or IV job grade level, as appropriate.

    Other:

    + Be capable of applying artificial respiration on or off ground and able to render practical first‑aid.

    + Must be able to meet all Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) requirements. If not currently in possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), employee is required to obtain a CDL within six months of date of hire or date of selection for the position.

    + Be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions; storms, extreme temperatures and winds, darkness, etc.

    + Must reside within a 60-minute response time to the base location.

    + Overnight travel required. (Must possess a valid driver’s license.)
