    Description

    The GMAW Aluminum Welder will be responsible for performing gas metal arc welding (GMAW) on aluminum components aboard the USS Cape St. George (CG-71) under the Navy's Big Blue III contract. This role involves ensuring high-quality welds that meet Navy standards and contribute to the vessel's operational readiness.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Perform GMAW welding on aluminum components, including structural and non-structural elements.

    Prepare and clean base materials to remove oxides and contaminants before welding.

    Set up and operate welding equipment, including spool guns and push-pull systems.

    Conduct routine inspections and quality checks on welded joints.

    Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.

    Comply with all safety and environmental policies and procedures.

    Maintain detailed records of work performed, including any necessary repairs or replacements.

    Collaborate with other marine professionals to ensure the overall safety and functionality of the vessel.

    Specific Duties Related to Big Blue III Contract:

    Support the modernization and upgrade of Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems to improve ship availability, reliability, and mission readiness.

    Assist in the deployment of new technologies aimed at reducing maintenance and workload requirements for aluminum welding.

    Participate in the installation and maintenance of advanced radar, sonar, and weapon systems specific to the USS Cape St. George.

    Help with the integration of electronic charting display and information systems.

    Perform tasks related to the environmental quality improvements aboard the ship.

    Ensure compliance with all Navy and shipyard regulations and standards.

    Tools and Equipment:

    Welding gun: spool gun or push-pull system 2.

    Power tools: drills, grinders, saws.

    Cutting tools: saws, cutting torches.

    Welding consumables: aluminum wire, shielding gas.

    Safety equipment: welding helmet, respirator, ear plugs, gloves, coveralls, hardhats, steel-toed boots

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    Welder shall have two (2) years of shipboard experience in the position and be at the journeyman level of competence.

    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Proven work experience as a GMAW Aluminum Welder.

    Specialized training in GMAW aluminum welding techniques.

    Experience with advanced diagnostic equipment and techniques.

    Knowledge of Navy standards and regulations for shipboard welding

    Deep understanding of aluminum welding techniques and equipment.

    Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $38.00/hr.
